5 Data Privacy Startups that are Making a Difference

The past several years saw an unfortunate overlap between modern tech advancements and data breaches. In today’s modern era, digitalization seemingly became synonymous with breaches, leaks, and phishing attacks. Just last year, big tech companies including Apple, Meta, Twitter, and Samsung all reported data breaches that exposed sensitive user information, and the frequency and severity of such threats are only increasing.

This year, the challenge of effectively managing data security, privacy, and access has even reached unprecedented heights.

Despite the prevalent attacks, strides have been made to protect data both from a company’s and customer’s standpoint. In fact, legislation has been enacted in 107 countries, including 66 developing or transitional economies, to ensure the protection of data and privacy. Asia and Africa have a similar level of adoption in this area, with less than 40% of countries having laws in place.

But as regulations become more stringent, breaches become equally stronger. Today, progressive leaders and serial entrepreneurs are taking it into their hands to provide cutting-edge solutions to bulletproof data protection in much more efficient and cost-effective ways.

Here are 5 data privacy startups that are making a difference this 2023:

MineOS

MineOS is a Privacy, Governance & Compliance Operating System that helps brands establish trustworthy relationships with their customers by respecting their data and adhering to current and future privacy laws. The MineOS platform streamlines privacy-related tasks for legal, data protection, and IT teams, providing them with easy and fast access to privacy requests, data mapping, consent management, data classification, and more.

MineOS is widely adopted by small and large brands in highly regulated industries and is recognized as a leader in the industry by its customers on G2. Privacy is now a crucial aspect of user experience for any company, and MineOS aims to create a new privacy experience that benefits both consumers and companies.

Vanta

Vanta was established in 2018, following several high-profile data breaches that highlighted the increasing significance of online security. They recognized how difficult it could be for rapidly expanding companies to allocate the time and resources required to develop a solid security foundation. Vanta’s objective was to rebuild trust in internet businesses by empowering companies to enhance and validate their security measures.

The mission of Vanta is to safeguard consumer data and reinstate faith in online businesses. They are building a sustainable organization where all Vanta employees can achieve their full potential. To achieve this, they have established a set of principles that guide their decision-making and how they operate.

Varonis

Varonis specializes in data security and analytics, setting itself apart from traditional cybersecurity companies. The focus is on safeguarding enterprise data including confidential customer, patient, and employee data, sensitive files and emails, strategic and product plans, financial records, and other intellectual property.

The Varonis Data Security Platform analyzes data, user behavior, and account activity to detect cyber threats originating from both internal and external sources. It also restricts access to sensitive and outdated data to prevent and limit any potential disasters. Furthermore, the platform automates security measures to maintain a secure state efficiently.

Ketch

Ketch offers businesses and platforms a solution to establish trust with their customers and expand their reach using data. The Ketch Trust by Design Platform simplifies privacy operations and enables businesses to leverage responsibly collected data for improved customer engagement and revenue growth.

Ketch Programmatic Privacy™ is a feature that allows companies to quickly adapt to changing regulations while reducing privacy engineering and operational costs by 80%. On the other hand, Ketch Data Stewardship gives businesses complete control and insight over their important data assets, enabling them to build trust and pursue advanced data analytics and AI initiatives responsibly.

42Crunch

42Crunch offers a developer-first API security platform that provides continuous protection for digital businesses. Its platform enables developers to automate security into their API development pipeline, while also giving security teams complete visibility and control of security policy enforcement at every stage of the API lifecycle. This DevSecOps experience is deployed by global leading enterprises, cutting down governance costs, and accelerating the rollout of secure APIs.

Unlike existing security solutions such as web application firewalls (WAFs) and static/dynamic application security testing (SAST/DAST) tools, 42Crunch’s platform is specifically designed to secure APIs, which are a prime target for hackers. 42Crunch aims to simplify the lives of API developers and security practitioners.
