Keeping your doors open to other genres to polish your skills further is perhaps the best policy an artist can ever adopt. Venturing into new genres is not taboo, as some old school critics might think of it that way. Instead, it broadens your horizons further. Chris Burke, a young music artist from Scotland, is an inspiring millennial exploring the modern music genres. Starting his career from pop and country music, he ventured into EDM and finally Trance. However, one thing you can sense in all of his tracks and albums is uniqueness.
Chris went to a concert of Foo Fighters in 2007 with his father, and it sparked in him a craze to do something unique in the musical realms. Starting his career from his own established band, Cold California, the response he received from the public was quite motivating.
Being an engineer, Chris started his practical life doing PR work for The Garage in Aberdeen, and then made his engineering consultancy and recruitment firm. That business was also going pretty well, as the returns were petty encouraging. But you know what they say, passion is what drives your life, not the hunger for money. Chris realized this thing quite early in his life. Cold California was the fulfillment of his dream at the age of 16. He and his friends had some mutual likings towards pop and country music at that time. They used to listen to Eminem, Biffy Clyro, Foo Fighters, and Bruce Springsteen quite often.
As in every field, young minds always come up with something innovative and non-cliché. Chris and his friends also made sure that their music remained original. Due to this reason, everything was worked upon in-house, right from the lyrics to the composition and final edits. Chris himself used to write the lyrics for his songs while at Cold California. The tracks and albums Chris released while being with Cold California are still quite popular among the fans. During this time, he also released a post-rock ambient album, Wanderlust, collaborating with David Chappell. That also received quite a big round of applause from the enthusiasts. Chris always excelled in what he was doing and collaborated with the top names to generate the best possible results.
Talking about how he ventured into EDM, it’s a doozy! Well, our boy was surfing through Bebo, a social media platform, and there he came across one of the tracks by Calvin Harris. Obviously, like all the people, he too liked the tracks quite a lot, owing to his Out-of-the-Box approach. There he started connecting links and decided to experiment with EDM.
Besides being catchy and rhythmic, Electronic music is also quite tricky to produce, as you can overcrowd your tracks with too many unnecessary effects and sounds. However, Chris handled it quite smartly and focused on making them soothing and composed. It not only made them a joy to listen to on headsets, but they also got played extensively in different clubhouses, bars, and casinos. His first two tracks, Space and Time and Dreamers, made new records of being liked by fans globally. The next single, Never Really Liked You, also followed the same suit, owing to its psychedelic nature. It even got featured by Tiesto, the Godfather of EDM, on his radio show, Club Life. I guess this in itself was a huge award and a gesture of encouragement for Chris.
Often it is referred that music gives your mind and sole wings. It does! And if you are making it right from your heart, then it will have its impact on people. About making an impact on people, there is no better genre than Trance. Chris ventured into Trance when he went to a Gareth Emery concert in Orlando, Florida, while he was on vacation. We all know how good Gareth is at producing heart touching music. It made Chris inspired enough to work on his trance albums and singles. It was all back in 2019. In the meantime, Chris also began exploring this genre further that ultimately lead him to listen to legends like Paul Van Dyke and Armin Van Buren. Carrying on this momentum, he released a track collaborating with Eximind on Suanda Record in March 2020. He is even working harder and improving his skills to release some more tracks and albums this year. So, keep your tabs on him!
