Interview With Rising Chattanooga Hip-Hop Artist Justzai

Isaiah Wallace, AKA Justzai, was born and raised in the city of Chattanooga, TN. In a home of six, he found the influence of his parents and family a driving motivator throughout his life. He began writing music and poetry at the age of two, and he hasn’t stopped since. While participating in local rap battles in the city, he was discovered. Justzai has been professionally recording music since 2012 and has been perfecting his style and craft ever since.

Tell us about your background getting to where you are today? 

I started recording music in 2012 out of breaker 17 studios, I got traction in the city where I was raised (Chattanooga, TN) and I have been pursuing music ever since.

How did you get into music?

I was discovered while battle rapping in local events in Chattanooga, TN

What is the most challenging thing you have overcome in your life?

Overcoming perfectionism. Always feeling like everything I release is flawed and never being satisfied. I had to accept that there is beauty in imperfections. 

Are you currently signed or independent?

I am currently independent but as of January of next year, I won’t be. 

Who inspires you the most musically?

I am most inspired by J Cole.

What do you want people to take away after listening to your music?

Inspiration to create what they want.

Any new music coming out soon?

A 10 track album that will be released as singles, entitled “Here We Go Again”.

What is your greatest achievement as a musician?

I reached 400,000 listeners on Spotify.

Do you produce your own music? If not who do you work with?

I do not, my music is engineered by Abdias Joga. 

Who is one artist you wish you could work with?

I would love to work with Sounwave.

Tell us about any new music you have coming out? When is coming out? What is it about?

A 10 track album that will be released as singles, entitled “Here We Go Again.” It is a celebration of all the different styles of rap, hints, “Here We Go Again.” It will be released next month.

What does a day inside your shoes look like?

I write, I live, and I record what I’m Living.
