Pivoting in a Pandemic – A ‘Turn of Events’

There’s no denying that the past year has placed many small businesses in a vulnerable state, which includes (but is certainly not limited to) the events industry. While large social gatherings may seem like a thrill of the past, some event companies have used this pandemic as an opportunity to pivot, probing the age old question… does size really matter?
And that’s exactly what Turn of Events (appropriately named) chose to do!
A new arrival to the events scene, Turn of Events is a micro events company specializing in luxury picnic experiences. Owners Jordan Quinn and Whitney Radacina saw an opportunity to curate mini but memorable experiences for the GTA and they took it. As the pair pops up in homes, studios, backyards, parks and beaches alike, they are proving that no milestone should go uncelebrated. Week after week they are customizing beautiful, boho-inspired picnics complete with charcuterie, thanks to @thegrazybox and virtual wine tastings, thanks to @mywineproject.
“We were on a mission,” Quinn explains “To create simple but significant moments that are not only memorable but meaningful”. She goes on to mention her sister, who due to the pandemic, did not get the engagement party or baby shower Quinn felt she deserved.
“These are important milestones and I told myself I wouldn’t let that happen again. I took matters into my own hands! So with Whitney by my side, Turn of Events came to fruition”.
To some, this new venture may seem like a far reach from Quinn and Radacina’s comfort zones. Quinn owns several social media companies, specializing in influencer marketing and social media management. Radacina owns a Virtual Assistance business which supports entrepreneurs like Quinn.
When asked if she felt Turn of Events was a departure from her skillset Quinn responds, “I come from a PR background where social media is only a spec of what we do in the field. Event management is very much within the PR realm as it’s just another way to communicate. What’s exciting is that we are still leveraging social media to bring this to the next level”
As for Radacina, she has taken on the administrative tasks within the new business, which very much align with her day-to-day work.
“I think our strengths complement each other well. We make a great team” Quinn adds. “I enjoy being the creative or visionary behind the project while Whitney really shines at the coordination of everything.”
Quinn and Radacina continue to decorate the GTA with their beautifully intimate picnics, celebrating birthdays, engagements, anniversaries, showers, proposals and bachelorettes just as they set out to do, proving time and time again that size, in fact does NOT matter.
