Rakim Al-Jabbaar Unleashes “BIG BABY THANOS” EP

Inspired by Thanos, the ultimate villain of the Marvel cinematic universe, Dallas rapper Rakim Al-Jabbaar delivers an 11-track EP “BIG BABY THANOS,” a harmonious attempt at bringing back the balance to the world of Hip-Hop.

Having released the project independently at the tail end of March, BBT is Rakim’s fifth album and is unarguably his best collection of songs to date. Although the release was independent, there is no doubt that the creation of a project this well-equipped needed the service of the most qualified and supportive individuals.

“I had the support of some of the best producers in the city,” says Rakim Al-Jabbaar. “The best engineer in the city, the best A and R in the city, the best women in the city, the best spirits in the city. Shout out to all the dead homies. You know how we do?”

For years Rakim has been working his way up, delivering a variety of melody-packed collections that have documented his tireless cadence mastery. What has quickly won me over about the artist is his serious “matter-of-fact” flow that he flaunts even with a muddled delivery.

Tracks like  “Reasonable Doubt,” “HRT BRK HTL,” “Elementary Dreams,” and”Reasonable Doubt” quickly grasped the attention of fans, both new and old.  In an interview about the project, Rakim explained that this project needed to amuse hip-hop fans with appealing storytelling, both fiction and non-fiction.

“The main thing I want to place an emphasis on is that as hip-hop artists, we make music for ourselves and for other people,” he said. “So sometimes we are telling our story, sometimes we telling somebody else’s story, and it’s not always the truth. We don’t live every single word that we speak in these rhymes, right? And I believe that the children need to know that. So they don’t need to think that they need to emulate everything that they hear, or if they are going to be a rapper, that they got to be a nigga that’s sliding and killing niggas and shit just to spit a rhyme. Do you know what I’m saying? Your job is to be the voice of your community, and you are supposed to speak on what you see out there in the streets, but that doesn’t mean you got to participate in it to have that voice.”
