4 Tips for Keeping Final Drive Motors in Pristine Condition

Due to the nature of their work, final drive motors undergo a lot of pressure, therefore, they can easily break down. This however doesn’t have to be the case. With proper maintenance, a final drive motor can serve you well. So how exactly do you keep a final drive motor in pristine condition? Read on and find out.
1- Clean the Undercarriage of Your Machine
The undercarriage of your machine accumulates a lot of dirt and mud over time. This debris can affect the normal functioning of your final drive motor and if not cleaned, it could damage the motor. Once the seals around your motor are broken, debris will start getting deposited directly into the motor. Over time this build-up will cause disruptions in the normal functioning of your motor. Whether your machine is wheeled or tracked, the effect will be the same and over time you will end up with a broken motor. To reduce the chances of this occurring ensure you regularly clean your final drive motor after every task or in between tasks.
2- Check the Gear Oil Levels
Oil is essential in most mechanical parts and the final drive motor is no exception. The planetary hub on your drive motor requires oil to function normally. When the gear oil levels start falling, parts of the motor will start moving against each other with no lubrication creating a lot of friction and heat. This will lead to wasted energy since your motor will need to work extra hard to keep running. This will translate to poor performance of your equipment making it inefficient. If the gear oil levels aren’t replenished, your gears will lock up and end up getting damaged. To avoid this ensure to keep an eye on the gear oil levels.
3- Change the Gear Oil In Your Final Drive
Oil like any other part wears out. It begins to get thicker and its adhesives wear out over time. Therefore replacing your gear oil is an essential part of maintenance. Without proper oil running in your system, the whole system may get compromised. Aged oil can also act counterproductively in your system. It can generate more heat than it dissipates. This will wear out your parts even more and may translate to expensive repairs. Ensure to regularly change the gear oil in your final drive to ensure optimal performance.
4- Don’t Ignore Leaking Seals
If your encounter leaks in your motor you need to address this immediately. You could likely be experiencing a leaking seal that needs to be replaced. Instead of topping up your oil and ignoring the leak, ensure you have the seals replaced. Replacing your motor drive will also prevent debris such as sand, rocks, and mud from getting logged into your motor.
Maintaining your final drive motor will ensure your machine serves you longer without lots of issues. Also, you’ll spend less keeping it in pristine condition compared to what you’ll spend buying parts or replacing your machine in its entirety. However, it is also important to have the right professionals work on your equipment. Ensure they are certified and qualified to service your motor.
