8 Low-Cost Hacks for Making a Military Move Easier on Yourself

8 Low-Cost Hacks for Making a Military Move Easier on Yourself

Military moves are notorious for being chaotic and expensive. Fortunately, some low-cost hacks can make the process easier for you. By preparing ahead of time and taking advantage of free or discounted services, you can minimize the stress of moving your family across the country (or the world!). Here are a few tips to get started.

1. Start Packing Early

This will give you time to sort through your belongings and decide what to keep, donate, or sell. It will also help to reduce the amount of work you have to do at the last minute.

2. Create a Detailed Inventory of Your Belongings

This will not only help you keep track of everything you need to pack, but it will also help you determine whether there are any items that you won’t be able to take with you. It would help if you also took some time to declutter before you start packing. Not only will this make the packing process easier, but it will also help you save on storage costs at your new location.

3. Utilize Any Moving Services Offered By the Military

Utilizing any moving services offered by the military is a great way to save time and hassle. The military will usually provide you with a list of reputable moving companies, so take advantage of that. In addition, try to get your hands on as many free boxes as possible. Many stores will give away boxes for free, or you can ask friends and family members if they have any extras.

4. Stay Organized

Make a list of everything you need to do and put it in a central location where you can easily refer to it. Keep track of important documents and paperwork, and make sure you have a plan for your pets and other family members. If you take the time to plan and stay organized, your military move will go much more smoothly.

5. Have a Plan

Please list everything you need to do and give yourself plenty of time to complete it. It’s also a good idea to enlist the help of friends and family members. They can help you with the heavy lifting and ensure your belongings arrive safely at your new home. Finally, don’t forget to take care of yourself during the moving process. Eat healthy meals, get enough sleep, and take some time for yourself to relax and de-stress.

6. Be Flexible

Many things can go wrong during the moving process, and it’s important to be prepared for anything. That means being flexible with your schedule and your expectations. If you’re able to be flexible, you’ll find that the move is much easier on you.

7. Take Time for Yourself

Moving can be stressful, so take some time for yourself during the process. This could mean taking a few days off work, walking, or reading your favorite book.

8. Reach Out for Help

Friends and family members can lend a hand with packing, and your local military community may have resources to help with the move. Additionally, don’t be afraid to ask your military sponsor for advice; they’ve likely been through the moving process and can offer valuable tips. By taking advantage of the resources and support available, you can ease the stress of military moving and make the transition to your new duty station smoother for everyone involved.

While there are many things to consider when making a military move, following these tips can make the process much easier for you. Planning and taking care of as many details as possible before your move will help reduce stress and ensure your transition is smooth.
