Calling All Farmers! Discover How Elm Dirt’s All-Natural Regenerative Fertilizers Can Revolutionize Your Farming Practices

Lauren and Matt Cain, the power couple behind Elm Dirt, are poised to transform the agricultural landscape. With a passion for sustainable, regenerative, and organic practices, they aim to reduce the detrimental impact of synthetic fertilizers on climate change and minimize the need for pesticides and herbicides.

Their mission?

To revolutionize farming and empower farmers to embrace environmentally friendly alternatives.

A Journey Rooted in Passion and Purpose

Lauren Cain, a chemical engineer, embarked on her journey with Elm Dirt in January 2020, just before the world was gripped by the pandemic.

Motivated by her concern for her six-month-old daughter consuming potentially harmful chemicals lurking in their backyard, Lauren knew there had to be a better way.

Drawing inspiration from her husband’s family’s worm farming background, she initially intended to pursue worm composting on a personal level.

However, fate had grander plans in store.

Harnessing her expertise in online sales, Lauren and Matt (@growing.cains) swiftly transitioned to an e-commerce platform, reaching customers nationwide.

They discovered an astonishing fact: composting worms and worm castings sold out every year, indicating an untapped potential.

Unyielding in their determination, they delved into research and development, leveraging Korean Natural Farming, permaculture, and emerging microbe technology to create their all-natural and organic fertilizers, Plant Juice and Bloom Juice.

A Fusion of Expertise and Experience

Lauren and Matt’s journey began long before Elm Dirt, having known each other since they were eight years old. Their shared love for the trumpet and countless high school memories laid the foundation for their enduring bond. Pursuing their dreams together, they both studied chemical engineering at the University of Kansas, where Lauren’s research encompassed the development of artificial intervertebral discs and chemical solvent exploration. After graduation, they landed positions at prominent oil companies in Texas, further refining their expertise in manufacturing and optimization.

Matt’s entrepreneurial spirit ignited first, prompting him to venture into online advertising and brand ownership in 2013. Lauren, driven by the same desire for independence, followed suit in 2015. Their combined experience in online commerce set the stage for Elm Dirt’s exponential growth, with a focus on direct-to-consumer sales. Now, the duo is poised to expand their horizons, embracing business-to-business opportunities across retail, farms, nurseries, and even golf courses.

A Trailblazing Path: Successes and Ambitions

Lauren and Matt’s visionary approach and unwavering dedication have yielded remarkable achievements, positioning Elm Dirt at the forefront of the industry:

Elm Dirt emerged as one of only eight companies out of 350 applicants to receive a prestigious USDA grant, affirming their commitment to expanding sustainable fertilizer production in the United States. In just two years, they have amassed an impressive customer base of 75,000 individuals, spanning all 50 states.

Elm Dirt’s organic products proudly bear the certification from the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA), assuring customers of their commitment to high-quality, eco-friendly solutions. With the capacity to serve up to 2 million acres of farmland, Elm Dirt stands ready to revolutionize agricultural practices on a massive scale. Their resolute dedication to sustainable farming practices has earned them the respect and support of regional politicians, universities, and climate change advocacy groups.

Guiding the Way: Unparalleled Expertise and Perspective

Lauren and Matt’s unique expertise enables them to provide invaluable guidance and insight within the industry. Drawing on their profound understanding of alternative fertilizers and the advantages and disadvantages of synthetic alternatives, they possess a depth of knowledge that distinguishes them from their peers. Their science-focused approach has garnered admiration from university professors, master gardeners, and other industry experts, cementing their position as trusted authorities.

The Key to Success: Staying True to Their Vision

Through unwavering commitment to their initial purpose, a relentless pursuit of scientific excellence, and the creation of a truly exceptional product, Lauren and Matt have emerged as trailblazers in their field. Elm Dirt’s high-quality, effective fertilizers not only deliver outstanding results but also contribute to the fight against climate change—a pivotal factor in their success.

Looking Ahead: Goals and Aspirations for 2023

Building upon their remarkable achievements, Lauren and Matt have set their sights on ambitious goals for 2023. Their primary objectives include expanding both their business-to-business and direct-to-consumer sales channels, completing marketing materials and trials for farms and golf courses, and securing substantial contracts for the coming years.

With a keen eye on the future, they are poised to make an even greater impact on the agricultural industry.

A Vision for a Better World

Lauren and Matt’s unwavering dedication to making a difference in the world propels Elm Dirt toward a future where synthetic fertilizers are replaced by sustainable alternatives.

With their sights set on global operations, they envision a world where their environmentally friendly practices pave the way for a brighter, greener future. Committed to supporting non-profits, environmental causes, and initiatives benefiting parents and children, they strive to leave a lasting, positive impact on society.

Life-Altering Moments and Lessons Learned

From bidding farewell to corporate careers to embracing the challenges of entrepreneurship, Lauren and Matt have encountered life-altering moments throughout their journey.

Becoming parents and receiving overwhelming support during and after the USDA grant process stand out as transformative milestones. Reflecting on their experiences, they credit their steadfast focus on their purpose and unswerving dedication to their cause as the cornerstones of their success.

Turning Mistakes into Lessons

Lauren and Matt have learned valuable lessons along the way, recognizing the importance of efficient time management and strategic planning.

Overestimating available time and adapting to the unique demands of a seasonal business taught them the critical need for meticulous preparation, whether in staffing, cash flow management, or purchasing decisions.

Embrace the Future: The Catalyst for Going All In

Driven by their unwavering belief in the future of fertilizer and their desire to make a lasting impact, Lauren and Matt committed wholeheartedly to Elm Dirt.

They recognized their ability to contribute beyond traditional employment, embracing the entrepreneurial path to build something truly extraordinary. Through their pioneering spirit, unparalleled expertise, and unwavering commitment to sustainable practices, Lauren and Matt Cain are leading the charge in transforming agriculture.

With Elm Dirt as their vehicle for change, they are poised to shape a future where sustainable, regenerative, and organic practices reign supreme.
