Chris Lenyszyn, Georgia High School Wrestling Official, Presents Seven Tips to Learn Wrestling Quickly!

In a recent interview with high school students, GHSA Wrestling Official Chris Lenyszyn gave seven great tips to learn wrestling quickly. Mr. Lenyszyn noted that whether you are a beginner or an experienced wrestler, there are always ways to improve your skills and learn new techniques.

The first step Chris Lenyszyn noted, is that one should find a good coach or mentor.  One of the best ways to learn Wrestling fast is to find a Coach or mentor to guide you. To quote him,

“Look for someone with experience in the sport and willing to share their knowledge with you. A good Coach or College Wrestler can help you improve technique and provide valuable feedback on your performance.”

The second tip that Mr. Lenyszyn touched on is practice. He stated that a consistent approach is critical to improving your skills in Wrestling. According to Chris Lenyszyn, you must practice at least five days a week if not more. Also, he said to set aside time for specific drills and exercises that will help you develop your strength, speed, and endurance.

Chris Lenyszyn also stated that one should try and watch Wrestling matches regularly. Watching Wrestling matches can be an excellent way to learn new techniques and strategies. He advised students to look for videos of high-level wrestlers and pay attention to their movements, footwork, and technique. He also urged learners to note what they see and replicate these moves during practice sessions.

On top of that, Chris Lenyszyn added that one should be ready to learn from their mistakes. He said that no one is perfect and everyone makes mistakes. As such, instead of getting discouraged, an aspiring wrestler should use mistakes as an opportunity to learn and improve. To quote him,

“Pay attention to where you went wrong and try to fix the issue during your next practice session.”

Mr. Lenyszyn also urged aspiring wrestlers to focus on fundamentals. He stated that Wrestling is built on a strong foundation of fundamental techniques. One has to ensure they have a solid understanding of basic moves like takedowns, escapes, and pins. Once one has mastered these fundamentals, one can build on that knowledge and develop more advanced techniques.

He added that an aspiring wrestler must always stay in shape. Chris Lenyszyn noted that wrestling requires a high level of physical fitness. He said,

“Make sure you are staying in shape by doing regular cardio and strength training exercises. This will help you build your endurance and strength to perform well in matches.”

Lastly, Chris Lenyszyn emphasized the need to join a Wrestling Club, Summer Wrestling Camp or Team. He noted that joining a Wrestling Club like Level Up Wrestling Center, Morris Fitness Wrestling and Team Georgia Wrestling can be a great way to learn from experienced wrestlers and meet other athletes who share the same passion for the sport.
