Cosmetic Dentistry Pioneer, Dr. Sam Shahoveisi Has Combined the Convenience of Corporate Dentistry With the Quality of Boutique Dentistry

“We offer quality, personalized dentistry, available to all.” When Dr. Sam Shahoveisi first opened his dental practice, City Dental Centers in Southern California, 20 years ago, he was struck by the lack of cosmetic dental services available to patients outside of wealthy Los Angeles and Orange County  neighborhoods. He vowed to do something about this disparity, and two decades later he owns and operates 4 ultra-successful cosmetic dentistry offices in LA suburbs.

Born in Chicago, Dr. Sam moved back to Iran with his family when he was a mere infant. This was a tumultuous time for the country and by the time he was 13, he was sent back to the United States. However, this time he was completely alone. Barely a teen, Dr. Sam did his best to survive, living on and off the streets for several years. However, he never lost his sense of ambition. He excelled in school and by 26 he had graduated dental school, as one of the youngest dentists in his field. Shortly thereafter, he opened City Dental Centers in Pico Rivera, CA. Since then, he has expanded to Azua, Corona, and West Covina, CA, and helped thousands of patients achieve their perfect smile.

Growing up, Dr. Sam noticed that most people in his community did not even consider cosmetic dentistry an option for themselves, rather, purely a luxury for the rich and famous. Dr. Sam believes that cosmetic dentistry and the experience of a boutique, high-quality dental office should be accessible to all.

“I’ve focused on opening offices in these low to middle-class neighborhoods because I believe that people of all demographics should have access to excellent care, without the celebrity neighborhood markup,” Dr. Sam explains.

Don’t be fooled, City Dental Centers is still very much a corporation, with 4 current offices and plans to expand to 50 more locations in the next 7 years. They see dozens of patients a day and offer full-service cosmetic dentistry, from veneers to total smile makeovers. Veneers are not cheap. Because of this, most people consider cosmetic dentistry out of their reach. The reason that veneers are so expensive is that most dental offices have to outsource to a costly lab for the creation of the ceramic veneers, this is both expensive and time-consuming. However, Dr. Sam takes a different approach. Shortly after opening City Center Dental, he founded City Dental Lab, which produces all of the veneers. As a result, Dr. Sam can offer veneers at a much lower price, without sacrificing an ounce of quality.

“Now my patients can have a custom smile, without the massive price tag,” says Dr. Sam.

Despite owning and operating 4 offices, and splitting his time between each, Dr. Sam has carefully selected his partners and staff to ensure a top of the line, white-glove, boutique experience for each patient that walks through the doors. Dr. Sam strives to bring that Hollywood dentist office experience to the people of neighborhoods that otherwise would never have such an opportunity.

“Getting a smile makeover is a monumental life experience,” says Dr. Sam, “Your environment should match that level of importance.”
