Criminal Defense Attorney Kenneth L. Rosenfeld Reveals What It Takes to Win High-Stakes Court Cases
Attorney Kenneth L. Rosenfeld is known throughout the legal profession for having an impressive record of high-profile court case wins under his belt. From securing acquittals on two charges for former professional football player Dana Stubblefield to winning the “Tax Lady” Roni Deutch’s case–as of this writing, the largest criminal filing in California history–a case that saved her from serving prison time and paying millions of dollars, Ken Rosenfeld has decades of experience in performing at a high level under pressure.
Rosenfeld has routinely sought out some of the most challenging clients to represent in the State of California, including Sharon Simas, executive assistant to former Stockton mayor Anthony Silva, who was accused of embezzlement, laundering, and conflict-of-interest charges. By demonstrating that Simas had no intent to defraud, Rosenfeld was able to get her case dismissed in 2019.
Notably, during a case that reached the California Supreme Court, Rosenfeld also played a crucial role in establishing an important precedent for Facebook privacy in the courtroom. In a case that involved the street gang known as the Killa Mobb, the gang’s defense attorneys attempted to get their clients a new trial by claiming a juror was biased because of his Facebook posts. When they attempted to get possession of the juror’s posts, Rosenfeld successfully defended his client’s right to online privacy.
Rosenfeld partly credits his no-holds-barred attitude in the courtroom and aggressive representation strategy for his success in high-stakes cases. “When people hire me, they’re not coming in for a hug. They hire me because they want to win. And win I do,” he once said in an interview.
Rosenfeld brings 25 years of experience and expertise in legal areas such as criminal defense, juvenile defense, mental health defense, and appellate law. With a legal education from American University in Washington, DC, Rosenfeld became licensed to practice law after passing the California Bar Exam in 1996. He was admitted to United States District Courts for the Northern and Eastern Districts of California, where he still practices today as a founding partner at The Rosenfeld Law Firm in Sacramento. He has since become a member of Association of Trial Lawyers of America and the American Bar Association, showing his upward trajectory in the industry.
Rosenfeld has been recognized by the New York Times and Lawyers of Distinction’s “Power Lawyers” list in 2021 and 2023 and the Super Lawyers list from 2021-2024. He has also been interviewed as a legal expert by media outlets and television networks such as FOX40 TV, the New York Times, Forbes, TMZ, CNN, PBS, NBC, CBS, Fox News, BBC, and other local television and radio stations.
From Rosenfeld’s point of view, a successful attorney needs a unique combination of attitude, experience, knowledge, and training in the courtroom. It is this type of strength that he tried to impart to his students during his former role as an instructor for the California Bar Exam. “It’s about strength and how strong your defense attorney is and how hard they are going to fight for you; the stronger one wins.”
