DJ Rebuttal Discusses His Path To The Music Industry

McCoy Leigh, better known as DJ Rebuttal, has been making waves with a new sound out of Wisconsin. The DJ turned singer has been producing his own hits. He also has played in front of 5 thousand people. We got the chance to sit down and go over his journey.

-Beginning of Interview-

Tell us about your background getting to where you are today?

Getting to where I am today has been a long journey. From my first time going to a studio, all the way to playing shows in front of thousands of people. It’s been a ride. Most artists from Wisconsin aren’t doing anything like this.

Where are you from?

Plateville, Wisconsin. Now based in LA.

When did you start music?

I started music when I was 16 years old. I liked singing so much so I just stuck with it.

How did you get into music?

My friends told me I was good at singing so I decided to start taking it more seriously. I bought my own equipment and started producing and making music.

What is the most challenging thing you have overcome in your life?

The most challenging thing I have overcome is facing hate from my peers. Not everyone will support what you are doing, and the earlier you recognize that the better.

Are you currently signed or independent?

Currently independent. Couple of labels have talked to me, but really only for work as a DJ. I want to take more the artist lane and combine the two.

Who inspires you the most musically?

Listening to others create. Its so easy for me to collaborate with someone who is talented at what they do. Especially hearing someone create something on the producing side.

What do you want people to take away after listening to your music?

I want people know they aren’t the only ones going through what they are. Especially people dealing with heartbreak or relationship issues. I’ve been making a lot of music about those.

Any new music coming out soon?

Yes. Very soon we will be dropping an album.

What is your greatest achievement as a musician?

Playing in front of 1,000 plus. That vibe and energy is crazy. Especially as a performer.

Do you produce your own music? If not who do you work with?

I produce, sing, mix, and master all my own music. Sometimes I do collaborate.

Who is one artist you wish you could work with?

Having a song with Drake would be cool. Lol.

Anything else you want the audience to know about you?

I want the audience to know they can do whatever they want in life. No matter what anyone tells you, go after your dream. It can really happen.
