Dom Farnan’s Inaugural Book Asks You to Face Your Biggest Obstacle: Yourself

In Now Here: A Journey from Toxic Boss to Conscious Connector, Dom Farnan shares her personal, vulnerable journey of healing, self-discovery, and self-love.
Dom Farnan seemed to have it all. The CEO of successful, global recruiting firm DotConnect, she had a loving husband, an amazing kid, friends, and family. She was living the dream.
But deep down, her life was in shambles and her heart was hard. As a high-functioning depressive, she had been emotionally closed off for most of her life. That toxicity that she ignored and pushed down was rotting her from the inside. She was living an unhealthy, workaholic lifestyle that revolved around constant validation and a need to say “yes” to everyone except herself.
Dom’s behavior had an impact. Her employees were unhappy, her business was not operating the way she knew it could, and her relationships suffered. She got to a point where she realized that maybe it wasn’t everyone else who was the problem … maybe it was the common denominator … her.
Dom’s first book, Now Here: A Journey from Toxic Boss to Conscious Connector, chronicles her inner healing journey, a journey that helped her to realize that she had it all wrong: it’s not just about accolades and validation, but personal relationships and inner peace. With the help of a coach, she learned that meaningful and lasting change has to begin by confronting what she had been ignoring on the inside.
It was all connected.
By stepping out of her comfort zone and making a conscious effort to change her thoughts, Dom was able to change her life. “I knew that I could no longer operate in the same way, and with the help of a coach and practices that I was able to do daily on my own, I started to change my behavior. I pushed myself. Asked the tough questions, the ones I had been avoiding for so long,” said Dom. “When I started to make changes in myself, I also saw change around me. There was an immediate and obvious ripple effect, and it became infectious.”
Employees started to show up differently for work, they once again felt motivated and appreciated, and they wanted to be there for their clients. Dom’s personal relationships improved, and, most importantly, she improved her relationship with herself.
“I was always looking for validations and affirmations from others, and the result was that I said yes to everything and found myself at everyone’s beckon call. I was uncomfortable saying no and setting boundaries. I was operating with an elevated level of stress, and it showed. But when I started to approach situations from a place of consciousness and intentionality, I was so much happier and so, too, were those around me.”
Dom realized that if she was seeing change in her own company and her own life, it could happen for others as well. That’s why she is now committed, through her recruiting business, to creating conscious workplaces. “It’s not just about who can do a job. It’s about helping companies identify and define their culture, and helping them find people who are a holistically good fit. In this way, we are transforming the workplace for the better.”
Dom is the first person to say that she is not perfect. She still has her bad days. But now she has the tools to navigate and manage them. As she finds herself navigating new personal and professional challenges, she feels more equipped than ever to tackle them head on.
My biggest takeaway from my journey so far is that you can be the best and still have balance. You can be in your consciousness and also be successful. You can truly have it all, you just have to do the work to understand what “it all” means for you.
