Everything you need to know about the future of Star Wars

Fan base of Star Wars is hardly left wanting for decent entertainment in this day and age. The Star Wars brand is continuously producing a variety of new merchandise and material, many of which are commercially successful. These products include video games, movies ,novels, comic books, and animated television shows. And they are continuously thinking about what will come next.

Things are about to get hectic, what with the premiere of the live-action Thrawn and the returns of The Mandalorian and Grogu, so buckle up and… smash it!

Star Wars made a responsible decision by pausing all work on future movies just after the Sequel Trilogy angered a significant number of the franchise’s devoted fans. They hoped to gain wisdom from their errors and spend further time producing the pictures. No one anticipated that this would result in a delay of up to six years before the release of the upcoming Star Wars film, and yet here we are in 2023.

WHEN WILL WE SEE MORE STAR WARS FILMS AND SERIES?

After many years without a cinematic run, Lucasfilm is considering making a new Star Wars picture. And despite the fact that the series is currently taking a break from appearing in theaters, there are still upcoming Star Wars films to look forward to. Over three years have passed after the launch of Star Wars: Episode IX — The Rise of Skywalker in 2019, and the next open window for a picture is in 2023, which will obviously never happen. Fans can therefore expect a film to be released in 2025.

Fans have had a hard time keeping up with the many revealed and undisclosed Star Wars productions, as Lucasfilm seems to have Taika Waititi planning to work on a Star Wars film, Kevin Feige as well as MCU creator M.Waldron working on some kind of movie, Patty Jenkin’s Rogue Squadron now in progress, and a few other projects in the working.

Lucasfilm has a somewhat a five-year roadmap, and aficionados of the Star Wars franchise won’t know what’s currently in the works until Lucasfilm starts unveiling new projects

It’s possible that the first film to hit theaters will be Damon Lindelof’s top-secret Star Wars film. Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, who previously directed Ms. Marvel, will helm the film, and Lindelof as well as Justin Britt-Gibson are presently penning the story.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM STAR WARS IN 2023

Over the course of the previous 5 years, Disney has made numerous public announcements regarding the production of new movies, only to abruptly scrap those plans or just place them in the company’s production queue without more explanation.

A negative feeling? No, a fantastic one! With numerous new live-action, animated, and a huge video game coming out in the new year, Star Wars is at full throttle.  The debut dates for seasons 3 of The Mandalorian and Ahsoka were revealed at last year’s “Star Wars Celebration 2022”, which opened in California with Lucasfilm’s Studio Showcase.

STAR WARS FRANCHISE UPCOMING PROJECTS

The fate of Star Wars is now in Kathleen Kenney’s hands, who may or might not be around any while to make the announcement. To tide them over till then, viewers will have to settle for conjecture and an emphasis on Disney+ programming, which has been excellent but can’t satisfy their craving for a live-action Star Wars experience. Anyhow, we have compiled a list covering all of the future Star Wars movies and television episodes, which includes everything from crooks to Jedi Knights to amazing bounty hunters.  Be prepared to witness battles between temple guards and Sith armed with lightsabers.

There are enthusiastic ideas in the works to offer us a lot far more of Star Wars, such as a story centered on cherished heroes or a completely new cosmic voyage, but some of these are closed and others are merely industry rumors that haven’t been approved by Disney. The list also includes even a few of the rumors that could take you by surprise.

All of the unreleased Star Wars films scheduled by Lucasfilm and Disney up until this point are as follows, with the most up-to-date information available:

  • Project By Taika Waititi With An As-Yet-Unnamed Title

Disney confirmed in May of 2020 that Taika Waititi would be directing and co-writing a new Star Wars film with Krysty Wilson-Cairns. Although the story’s progression is now a mystery, Taika Waititi has expressed an interest in delving further into the galaxy’s other inhabitants. He has no interest in having anything to do with the Skywalker family, and he just wants to enjoy himself while watching this movie. We expect the film to open in theatres by the end of the year at the latest.

  • Rian Johnson’s Trilogy

Over four and a half years have passed since Disney and Lucasfilm originally said that Rian Johnson, director of The Last Jedi, would make a future Star Wars movie series. With the release of Knives Out and his new agreement with Netflix for many films, Kathleen Kennedy recently said, “Rian has been tremendously occupied.” It is anticipated that the aforementioned trilogy will “bring new protagonists from a part of the universe that Star Wars history has never previously explored.”

  • Rogue Squadron

Rogue Squadron is going to be the title for the upcoming Star Wars feature picture, Disney announced at the Investor Day event in 2020. An all-new crop of aspiring starfighter pilots will be introduced to the audience in this page-turning, adrenaline-pumping adventure. Star Wars fans have adored the story of Rogue Squadron for a long time, and it will take us into a new era of the galaxy.

After approximately one year had passed, The Hollywood Reporter published a report stating that production had been delayed due to scheduling concerns. As a result, Disney removed the movie off its production calendar. We shouldn’t anticipate seeing Rogue Squadron any sooner than the year 2024 at the earliest.

CLOSEST-TO-COMPLETION STAR WARS PROJECTS

The television shows and movies that are included on this list will all be very intriguing to watch when they are released in 2023 and even beyond. It’s going to be a very busy year, but there’s no question that Disney has a lot more surprises up their sleeve than that.

  • Star Wars: The Bad Batch Season 2
  • Releasing date: January 4, 2023

The Force is strong with you, loyal fans of Star Wars! Get the new year started with the band previously named as “Experimental Clone Force 99”

Clone Force 99 is back for a second series of the newest Star Wars cartoon movie, which follows the squad as it searches for its role in the initial moments of the Empire. The second season of The Bad Batch will reportedly offer a more in-depth look at the massive galactic change that took place from the era of the Republic into the age of the Empire. The novel twist will be much appreciated by the audience. In addition, we are certain that a Wookiee Jedi would make an appearance during the course of this season. In addition, we anticipate that Season 2 will provide more light on the real character of Omega as well as her relationship to the evil cloning tests carried out by Emperor Palpatine.

  • The Mandalorian: Season 3
  • Releasing date: March 1, 2023

After much speculation, Disney has announced that the new episode will launch on 1st March, 2023. Actor Giancarlo Esposito said that filming was supposed to start in the fall of ‘2021. A few familiar faces, such Karga, Peli Motto, as well as Frik, were featured in the teaser clip, but there may be even more surprise appearances in store.

After Grogu’s final decision in “The Book of Boba Fett” to side with his father instead of the Jedi Order, we finally get to see him in action when Season 3 of The Mandalorian finally premieres. Get ready Fan!! After taking a year off, the original live-action Star Wars show will come back for a third installment. Din Djarin, played by Pedro Pascal, will be back for Season 3 as the single sharpshooter faces the consequences of Season 2 as well as the weight of responsibility that comes with using the Darksaber.

  • Animated television series titled “Young Jedi Adventures”
  • Releasing time: Spring 2023

Do not go overboard with the snarky critiques about how the programme violates canon by incorporating an Ewok teddy bear or anything; remember: children are the target audience for this animated series, as suggested by the title. Release date for the first season is set for the springtime of 2023 on Disney+ & Disney Junior.

Young Jedi Adventures is an animated series set in the Star Wars universe at the time of the High Republic era. It follows a group of youngsters as they train to “become Jedi: sympathy, consciousness, collaboration, tolerance, and loyalty.”

  • Star Wars Jedi: Survivor
  • Releasing date: March 7, 2023

In the five years since the incidents of Star Wars: Jedi: Fallen Order, Cal Kestis has returned to continue his mission. In an already dangerous world, Cal will test his will to protect his loved ones by fleeing the Empire. A variety of innovative Force powers and lightsaber techniques will be showcased.

  • Star Wars: Ahsoka
  • Releasing date: not announced yet

Enthusiasts have been clamouring for more Ahsoka Tano since they saw Rosario Dawson (Ahsoka) in The Mandalorian, where she debuted as the live rendition of a beloved force user. Taking place after the destruction of the Empire, Ahsoka  will look into a new danger to the galaxy. Since the show will take place at the same time period as The Mandalorian, it’s probable that the instalment will focus on Ahsoka’s search for Ezra Bridger and Thrawn, like hinted at in that show.

There have been rumours that Hera Syndulla and Chopper, as well as Sabine Wren and Ezra Bridger, may return in Season 1 of Ahsoka, although these appearances have not been confirmed. Darth Vader, Ahsoka’s former mentor and now the galaxy’s most evil man, would return to the position. Additionally, following his role in Obi-Wan Kenobi, Hayden Christensen will reprise his role as Anakin Skywalker, however it is unknown if this would be as a Force Ghost or through flashback moments. Every confrontation that has taken place between these two protagonists up to this point has been nothing devoid of electrification, so we are looking forward to seeing how it plays out in live-action.

The show’s script is being written by Dave Filoni, and April 2022 has been set as the debut month for production. There is currently no set release date for Ahsoka on Disney+; nevertheless, the latter half of the year 2023 is a reasonable expectation for the debut of the film.

WHAT ELSE SHOULD WE EXPECT FROM THE STAR WARS SERIES?

Since there is so much lore to explore in the Star Wars property, Disney is pleased to help fans explore the galaxy through their streaming platform. Filmmakers will have the chance to have fun while developing a Disney film or TV show. The streaming platform has a chance to retain subscribers for the long haul if it gives them the freedom to watch new content whenever they wish.

Please don’t think that Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will be followed immediately by another instalment in the series. In theory, Episode IX would have concluded the nine-part Skywalker Saga. Although Lucasfilm does not presently have any plans to produce Episode X, there is always the possibility that this will change in the coming years.

Since Taika Waititi’s work on the second Thor movie is finished, he is free to concentrate on the first Star Wars film he will direct. If there aren’t any setbacks, we could even be able to see it by the end of the year after that. Aside from that, it is unknown what the future will bring for one of the most successful brands of all time. The outlook for new Star Wars films is not promising.

Keep this page bookmarked throughout 2023, as we will be updating it with the latest information on upcoming Star Wars television shows as well as movies.
