Finding Clarity When Your Next Step Is Uncertain

Whether you recently quit your job, were furloughed/fired, sold your company, closed its doors, or you’re a recent graduate looking for future career opportunities, it can be hard to find clarity. So often it feels as though a next career move must be dependent upon what’s currently available. But, that’s not necessarily the case. Clarity simply means you have certainty that you’re choosing what’s best for your long term vision, and it also feels exciting to you right now. You have the power to create this clarity and a new vision for what you want your next career move to be, rather than trying to fit your vision into positions or freelancing gigs that may be available.
For some, this comes as a sudden epiphany. It isn’t always that easy, though. If you’re feeling lost and nebulous on your next career move, try these four things before you settle for something… after all, our careers/jobs are one of the biggest parts of our lives. We deserve to find something we truly love.
1. Take Inventory Of Your Life In All Aspects Of It
2. Visualize Your “Dream Day” & “Dream Job/Life”
3. Network And Meet People To Form Alliances – Even If It’s Virtual Right Now
4. Show Your Worth and Skills / Learn New Ones To Add To Your Resume
Gaining clarity during times like now is important more than ever. Step back, evaluate, and take a breath. Then begin making the changes or choices that will make you feel satisfied both short term and long.
With COVID-19, the world is a changing place, as I have discussed in a previous article. But now more than ever, everyone has the time to also step back and take up new hobbies or study new skills. Whether it be learning yoga, meditating or just signing up to an online course, now is the time to try new things… you never know where it may lead you. Your next career or job may just be a click away.
So, whether you are at home or wherever, set your goals and use the four steps above here to help evaluate your next steps. Don’t be afraid to take chances, risk and apply to new jobs or start a new company. If there ever was a time, it is now. While it may be hard to imagine or put into place, COVID-19 has given you an opportunity. Dream big… and find clarity even if your next steps right now are uncertain!!!
