Five Reasons To Include Fiber in Your Daily Diet from Sarah Bowmar

Are you one of those people who always seem to feel bloated? Do you have problems falling asleep and staying asleep? Are you always feeling sickly despite ensuring adequate consumption of Vitamin C and other essential nutrients?
You might need more fiber in your diet.
I recently got to talk to certified nutrition specialist, author, and the founder and CEO of Apex Protein Snacks and Bowmar Nutrition, Sarah Bowmar via Zoom to ask for one health advice that she would give anyone regardless of gender, age and health goals, and she says, “Make sure you include fiber in your diet everyday. Fiber does more things for your body than you realize and honestly, we’ll all be a lot healthier and happier if we just consciously make sure we have enough of that.”
She breaks down five benefits of adequate fiber consumption and they are:
1. More balanced immune system
“Too many people associate their immune system to strictly Vitamin C and that is simply not the case. While Vitamin C is a great vitamin to maintain a healthy immune system, ensuring you are getting enough fiber is also vital.”
2. Better nutrient absorption
“Simply put, a clean and healthy gut functions more efficiently, allowing for maximal intestinal absorption.”
3. Improved metabolism
“There are literally trillions of bacteria in your gut–some good and some bad. These bacteria are directly tied to your metabolism. To simplify the explanation, your diet will help determine which of these bacteria will gain the upper hand in your digestive system. Good bacteria, in general, love the fiber found in clean foods like fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. An abundance of these good guys can improve your metabolism and promote weight loss.”
4. Improved sleep
“About 95% of the body’s serotonin can be found in the gut. Serotonin is a very essential hormone. It is key to modulating your mood, learning, and memory, among other physiological processes. If you constantly have low serotonin levels, there’s a big chance that you will get depression and anxiety or start experiencing sleeping problems.”
5. Improved cognitive functions
This goes back, again, to serotonin levels, which have links to your mood and other cognitive functions. In essence, a healthy gut will most likely result in a healthier mind.”
Sarah adds, “Only 5% of Americans consume an adequate amount of fiber per day! It is recommended, for an adult, to consume 14g for every 1,000 calories you consume. For example, if you are dieting on 1,500 calories, you should be consuming 21g of fiber. 2,000 calories = 28g of fiber and so on. The only way to know how much fiber you consume per day is by keeping track and tallying it at the end of the day.”
If you are underrating on fiber through your whole food sources, supplementing with Bowmar Nutrition Fiber is a great way to fill the gap. One scoop of the brand’s fiber weighs about 10 grams and makes it easy to fill in most people’s fiber gap.
Bowmar Nutrition Fiber contains psyllium husk, which according to various studies, is proven to relieve constipation. When combined with water, psyllium husk stimulates the intestines to contract and helps speed the passage of stool through the digestive tract. Adequate consumption of fiber per day is proven to help reduce bloating, improve your overall feeling of wellness, regulate bowel movements, help support your immune system, reduce bad cholesterol levels, improve insulin sensitivity, and reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
