Green Dreams: Ettitude’s CleanBamboo Fabrics for Better Sleep and a Better Planet

It’s projected that 50 to 70 million people in America have chronic or ongoing sleep disorders, according to the National Institute of Health. Therefore, 1 in 3 of you reading this suffer from a lack of sleep. As you know, being sleep-deprived not only wreaks havoc on your mental health and your productive output but also contributes to long-term health risks like high blood pressure, heart disease and obesity as well. What if you could tweak one small thing and sleep better? What if that one thing you tweaked was also vastly better for the environment?

One of the keys to improved sleep is sleeping conditions, including breathable, cool, moisture-wicking sheets. ettitude’s sheets, which are made of patented one-of-a-kind CleanBamboo fabrics, are not only heralded as “pure luxury“ by users but in a recent sleep lab study, they were also backed by scientific evidence. The results were compelling, with participants reporting a 10% improvement in sleep quality and 7.2 more minutes of sleep per night on average, which translates to 43 hours of extra sleep a year (SleepSpace). With 94% of participants preferring ettitude sheets over leading competitor sheets, the superiority of ettitude’s CleanBamboo fabric is undeniable.

ettitude co-founder Kat Dey explains that there are other fabrics made from bamboo. Still, they are not as comfortable. The processing is quite different, “Viscose from bamboo uses natural bamboo as a feedstock, but they essentially cook the bamboo in toxic chemicals that destroy a lot of the natural attributes, versus our lyocell method – we use a very gentle, food-grade solvent that preserves that softness and enhances breathability.” She adds, “Another cool property of our fabric is that it is hypoallergenic and dermatologist-recommended. People with skin sensitivities or allergies that cause them to sleep poorly will love our moisture-wicking fabric. Many people favor cotton, but it is known to trap moisture, which can contribute to bacteria growth that can cause skin irritations, and feels uncomfortable especially for people suffering from night sweats.”

Dey adds, “Our fabric has a notably smoother texture than other natural materials such as cotton. Many people who experience our fabric for the first time are amazed by its softness. When they try cotton again, they say it feels like sandpaper in comparison. The smoothness of our CleanBamboo fabric contributes to a more comfortable sleeping experience for our customers – they don’t want to get out of bed!”

The softness and breathability of ettitude fabrics enhances the physical aspects of better sleep quality, but it can also help with your climate anxiety that’s keeping you up at night. You can sleep easy knowing that ettitude is championing environmental sustainability. Traditional textiles, with their prevalent use of synthetics, cotton and animal fibers pose significant challenges to the environment due to high CO2 emissions. Processing these fibers also involves harsh chemicals that are extremely harmful to the environment. Even the washing and disposal of many other fabrics can negatively affect the ecosystem.

In response to these harmful processes, ettitude’s CleanBamboo lyocell is derived from FSC-certified organic bamboo and sourced from tree-free feedstock that grows 532 times faster than trees, with zero irrigation. They just cut off the tops and it keeps on growing. “The up value is that there’s no depletion of resources,” explains Amanda Turner, VP of Product & Impact Innovation.

ettitude’s distinctive processing methods are also much better for the planet. Their approach involves a closed-loop system and the use of low temperatures and gentle chemistry. This system allows for the recapture and reuse of water and food-grade solvents up to 200 times, leading to a remarkable 98% reduction in water usage, consumption and wastewater impact. The finished fabrics save 99% of water and 38% of CO2 vs. cotton.

The benefits of CleanBamboo fabric extend beyond comfort and environmental sustainability to provide superior sleep quality. Third-party testing has validated its hypoallergenic properties, excellent moisture management and temperature regulation capabilities. Compared to traditional textiles like cotton, bamboo viscose and Tencel, CleanBamboo fabric excels in sweat management and cooling, which has been scientifically proven to provide a better (and more comfortable) sleep experience.

ettitude’s CleanBamboo fabrics represent a massive paradigm shift in the textile industry, offering a winning combination of luxury, comfort and sustainability. By prioritizing both sleep quality and environmental responsibility, ettitude is paving the way for a more conscious approach to bedding materials.
