Hip Hop Artist Releases New Single for the Holidays
Introduction
Star2 is an Asian-American pop meets hip-hop artist preparing for the release of his upcoming pop project Shooting Stars. Just in time for the holiday season, Star2 releases his sentimental breakup anthem entitled “Lies”. While some might associate the holidays with “cuffing season”, others may find themselves in the rapid spike of breakups that occur during this time of year. Capturing the heightened feelings of loneliness and bittersweet memories that resurface over the holidays, Star2 is painfully stuck in his past on “Lies”. Inspired by a relationship where Star2 faced dishonesty, “Lies” captures the heart wrenching emotions of a lost love that falls flat.
About Single, “Lies”
“Lies” features melancholy notes of acoustic guitar, tear-jerking harmonies that echo through the wind, and a poignant vocal from Star2 as he walks through his past experiences. Star2 highlights the differences between himself and his former flame by contrasting the ways they treated each other throughout their relationship. He sings, “Lie to you / That’s something I can’t never do, never do / Lie to me / That’s what you do to me, do to me.” Offering an intimate, soul-bearing performance, Star2 lets his guard down on “Lies” as he relives a relationship that he still carries with him today.
The music video for “Lies” leans into that same opposition by pairing images of light and love with lonely landscapes of dull darkness. At one moment, Star2 and his past love couldn’t be happier. Star2 is captured proposing with a diamond ring and sharing a glass of wine over their engagement. At the next, his partner is seen taking off the ring in frustration and throwing pictures of them together into a fire pit. “Lies” chronicles a romance full of extreme twists and turns. Star2 learns along the way that his love shouldn’t keep him guessing. He ultimately decides that he’s better off alone, despite how much it hurts.
“Lies” is a track that we all can relate to that notes on feeling abandoned, betrayed, and let down by the ones we love most. Past Life of Star2
Before moving to the United States, Star2 was born in a Thai refugee camp. He is currently on a visit to his birthplace at the Mae La refugee camp in hopes of connecting with his community and inspiring the future of Asian artistry. Star2 has collaborated with an impressive roster of musicians including Soulja Boy, $tupid Young, Mozzy, MBNel, Luh Kel, Lil Poppa, HoodTrophy Bino, YSN Flow, MarMar Oso, and fellow Thai refugee Chinatown Runner. Star2 hopes to be a driving force within the future of Asian-American hip-hop and music as a whole. “Lies” is his latest release set to be featured on Star2’s upcoming Shooting Stars album.
