How New Platform, FlOasis, Revolutionizes Future of Remote Work

While the world slowly recovers from the global pandemic and a time where we had no option but to work remotely from our homes, we realize that perhaps physical offices are moot now. With meetings virtual and “digital nomading” becoming a norm, our location independence gives us the ability to truly connect with locals and immerse ourselves in new locations while simultaneously connecting online and doing our jobs.

FlOasis, a platform imagined and designed in the midst of the pandemic, is the answer for those aspiring to engage with the local community without getting behind on work. The two female founders,  Lola Casamitjana and Kristina Kuttan,

Thanks to our booking platform with unique features designed by remote workers for remote workers, we connect you to local stays that have all you need for a fulfilling experience,” said Casamitjana.

Guesthouses, farm stays, colivings, and hotels have all been tested and approved by remote workers, and they all provide, Wifi & workspace for productivity, a community to connect with, inspiring surroundings and activities to unplug, and weekly and monthly discounts.

Disrupt Magazine’s Olivia Liveng chats with Lola about the concept and mission behind FlOasis, and how they are disrupting the remote working industry.

OL: Tell us about your background and how you got into this digital nomad sphere.

LC: I’ve traveled all my life from when I was a kid going to see my grandparents in Morocco until today, where I’m writing to you from South Portugal. Very early on, I had a calling for other cultures, adventure, discovery. At 17, I decided to stop school for a year to go by myself to live in India. I’ve studied in the US and Belgium and traveled worldwide, from Asia to South America.

Discovering the world, connecting to others also brought the question of impact. How could I make myself useful? That’s how I started to use my creativity and vision working in Marketing and Communications to build Brands and Communities.  My last position was in a start-up NGO leveraging tech to bring various actors together to solve humanity’s main challenges. This was also where I got introduced to remote work, and it was a revelation!

After that, flOasis was born naturally. It was this discovery of remote work, with both its challenges – loneliness, overwork, stress – and its great opportunities – flexibility, ability to work from anywhere, making your own schedule, choosing your “colleagues”… – that brought me to the realization that a solution was missing.

OL: What kind of product is FlOasis? Who is your target audience, and what is your final goal?

LC: flOasis is a booking platform of unique stays empowering people to live & work at their best.

I use the word “people” intentionally, as flOasis is a solution for anyone working from a laptop looking for a way to reach their ultimate work-life balance. You can be a digital nomad, part-time or full-time remote worker, freelancer, entrepreneur… as long as you’re looking for places of productivity, wellbeing, and connectivity, flOasis is for you!

Beyond the platform, flOasis is also a community. A community for remote workers who can support each other, meet, stay connected and grow together, but not only. We have also built flOasis with owners in mind. In the last year, all over the world, owners have faced great difficulties due to the pandemic and find themselves in dire need to reinvent their business. That’s why we empower them to turn to mid-term rental and a different type of audience – the remote workers! To support them, we also organize special events, bring experienced guest speakers, encourage them to share tips and tricks, and support each other.

The goal? Be an actor of the change by empowering both location independent workers and owners to reach their full potential!

OL: How do you believe flOasis will disrupt the way remote workers work and live?

LC: As individuals and professionals, many of us struggle to live and work at our full potential. Stress, loneliness, and unbalance prevent us from feeling good and living our dream life. At flOasis, we’ve found the recipe to change that!

A booking platform with tailored features that connects you quickly and easily to unique stays owned by local hosts perfect to work remotely. Imagine a Surf & Yoga camp in Tenerife, a homey bed & breakfast in France, luxurious glamping in the Azores, a coliving in Mallorca… Imagine that they all have great WiFi and workspaces, inspiring surroundings, unique activities, and communities. Life-changing, right?

No more feeling lonely or stressed, enclosed between the four walls of your home, you now have an option to take a break, go work from somewhere truly inspiring, with like-minded people. No more worrying about WiFi or workspace, all of our stays are tested and approved by a remote worker—no more spending hours on generalist platforms without finding what is right for you. FlOasis is built with features tailored for remote workers like WiFi speed and workspace filters!

With flOasis, it’s finally possible for anyone to live & work at their best!

OL: Where do you see FlOasis in 1 year? 5 years? 10 years?

LC: flOasis, like remote work, is here to stay.

Today, we have 50 locations all over Europe. In 1 year, we’ll have thousands of places all over the world, and before long, we’ll be the go-to platform for anyone looking for an inspiring work-friendly stay and a community of like-minded people.

We will keep working on improving the platform with unique community features, facilitation for groups and teams, special offers for companies, great tools for owners… and so much more! While building this first version of the platform, we have identified many more needs that are yet to be answered on the market, and we have now the perfect start to address them.

Stay tuned because this is only the beginning of the revolution!
