How Working With a Coach Can Help Any Woman Find Her Identity in a Male-Dominated Industry

Women nowadays are faced with a difficult challenge to overcome well-known barriers to further develop both their careers and lives. In the modern-day, women oftentimes have to prioritize on one or the other, subsequently sacrificing the other. Out of all the industries that women currently work, it is the Information Technology industry that they face the most difficult challenge. According to the National Center for Women and IT, only 25% of all employees in the tech industry are women. Out of that 25 %, only 11% make it to the role of executives in Silicon Valley.

This causes a pretty great imbalance; one that experts hold divided opinions as the reasons why. Perhaps the greatest reason is the fact that the IT industry is predominantly male-dominated, and women find it harder to make a name in it.

But we’ve got together with Suzanne Prince, founder, and CEO of The Identity Queen, to talk us through how coaching can help women find their identity in a male-heavy industry such as Tech.

Suzanne is a person that helps women find out who they are, and how to morph into their best selves. She describes her work as “one from the dark”, “and making women feel comfortable in their own skin”. This can especially be the case for women working in the tech industry, says Suzanne.

So How Can Working With A Coach Help Anyone Find Their Identity?

Coaching is a relatively new and increasingly popular strategy that many women use to help them build their skills and advance in their careers. As a matter of fact, many organizations that focus on women empowerment invest heavily in coaches that help their workers reach their potential. There has been a lot of research done on the subject of coaching, and the research shows that coaching can be very effective in helping a woman find her identity.

According to Suzanne, coaching is mostly a one-on-one relationship between the professional and the person who needs coaching. The coach helps the client achieve professional goals by focusing on self-improvement.

What Are the Benefits of Hiring a Coach?

The obvious benefits that come with hiring a coach can mostly be described as support and encouragement for female employees who struggle in a male-heavy industry. According to Suzanne, coaching can help a woman with engagement, productivity, and retention, as well as, be effective in conducting business. These are traits that can come in handy in any industry, not just in tech.

Organizations and companies that hire coaches outside the organization can benefit a lot. These benefits are mostly related to the employee herself.

What Are the Most Popular Goals From Coaching?

We mentioned that coaching is a one-on-one relationship between the coach and the female employee, but what exactly happens in those meetings? We also mentioned setting professional goals, and Suzanne has told us more about those goals.

According to Suzanne, these are the most popular goals set by the coach and female employee:

·      Helping the woman work towards a leadership role.

·      Improves professional performance while in the workplace.

·      Improves relationships between company employees.

·      Increases self-confidence and a more balanced approach between work and life.
