Hyundai Hope on Wheels Continues to Fund Pediatric Cancer Research Amid Pandemic

COVID-19 has driven the world to its knees, shifting what used to be normal, and sending people scrambling to survive. In the United States, the global pandemic affected the country’s economy which resulted in a sudden and deep recession, hitting both local businesses and multibillion-dollar corporations.

Unknown to many, there is another group that has been greatly impacted by the pandemic: the non-profit organizations that numerous Americans rely on for social services, medical care, and spiritual needs to name a few.

The negative economic impact of COVID-19 on these essential non-profit programs turned what once was epicenters for jobs and large scale funding, the non-profit wells used to fund crucial programs such as donations, research, and more are running dry.

From an analysis of tax filings, the research group Candid concluded that tens of thousands of non-profit organizations are likely to close without some kind of rescue package to keep their operations going.

So how can these non-profits stay afloat and maintain safety nets for an increase in demand despite branch closures and budget cuts?

Hyundai Hope on Wheels, a non-profit of Hyundai Motor America, has the answer to this as it remains an exception to the threat of the pandemic and has become one of the few remaining safety nets for the continuous support of pediatric cancer research.

Providing a Safety Net for Pediatric Cancer Research

Launched in 1998, Hyundai Hope On Wheels has since then been committed to finding a cure for childhood cancer. The organization provides research grants to eligible institutions across the country.

By providing these institutions with funding, Hyundai Hope On Wheels paves the way for any breakthrough on research regarding Pediatric Cancer, as well as finding better treatments to better the care for the young patients and increase their chances of living cancer-free.

Primary funding comes from Hyundai Motor America and its more than 840 US dealers. The public can also join in this fight with every purchase of the new Hyundai vehicle. They can also pledge a donation to the organization itself.

In 2020, Hyundai Hope On Wheels has given more than $6.8 million in pediatric research grants and funding for COVID-19 drive-thru testing centers, thus bringing their total funding to $172 million.

With their funding model, Hyundai Hope On Wheels is able to continue providing for the Pediatric Cancer Community amid a pandemic.
