Jojo Alonso Discusses How To Have Success In Media

Jojo Alonso

Born to be in the spotlight, Jojo Alonso has no problem being center stage. Though Alonso has always been a woman with an opinion, her interest in radio began when she realized that ‘I can be myself and speak on how I felt about certain situations without being judged by the way that I look.’ However, her success didn’t come overnight, there were countless sleepless nights and hours put into her craft.

For those who don’t know or are just getting familiar with who Jojo Alonso is, she is a successful radio personality who is the host on “The Jojo and Big Homie Show” on iHeartRadio’s 105.3 The Beat in Atlanta and host of “The Big Homies House” podcast. Many guests have been featured on each show from Latto, Glorilla, Fivio Foreign, NLE Choppa and more. On the show they discuss artists’ new music but, also talk about real life topics from life, love, sex, relationships and more. Many clips from the show have gone viral on many social media platforms gaining the show major popularity.

Despite the glamorous highlights viewers see on Instagram, Alonso admits that she has made so many sacrifices to reach success. And, she wants other women to understand how the media business works. For one, she explains that there will be many events that you will be expected to attend for free. According to Alonso, ‘It’s not always about money in this industry, it’s mainly about networking and showing your hustle.’ Another thing that Alonso has had to sacrifice a lot of is time. As a single mother, she has experienced the challenge of balancing her time with work and being an active mother.

Though being a successful media personality can bring forth a hectic schedule, Alonso expresses her route to sanity – having a healthy work-life balance. “I have had to teach myself this throughout the years, because sometimes work consumes you and now your brain is overly packed,” Alonso admits. But, in order to handle the challenges that life throws her way, Alonso has learned to become organized and plan more.

For anyone seeking to have a presence in the media, Alonso shares that the hardest thing about being in the industry is having patience. Being in radio and becoming a successful radio personality takes a lot of time and Alonso knows that she is just getting started.
