Kasey Marcelle Talks Inspirations, Brooklyn, & New Music

Brooklyn based artist Kasey Marcelle has been making a name for himself with his unique sound. Inspired by the likes of Marvin Gaye, Biggie, and Jay-Z, Kasey is on a mission to make a name for himself in the music industry. We got a chance to sit down and chat with Kasey. Read our interview below.

–Start of interview–

Tell us about your background getting to where you are today?

ANS: “Honestly I’ve been around for a while, I’m a NYC artist born and bred but it’s so many different people here fighting for attention that sometimes it’s easy to go overlooked.”

Where are you from?

ANS:  “I’m from Bed- stuy Brooklyn. It’s like something in the water there or something because we like a different breed. when you think of the talent level that has been bred there; Biggie, Jay-Z, Fabolous; I could go on for a minute with Bed-Stuy history. I’m from Brevoort projects tho. Same Housing projects that Fabolous is from actually. There’s history there.”

When did you start music?

ANS:  “I’ve been singing as a kid all my life. One of the few memories my mom said she has of me as a baby was that I came to her knee and she expected me to say my first words, but instead I started singing a melody she recognized from the radio and I sounded just like it. She said she knew right there. Professionally, I’ve been making music since 2011.”

How did you get into music?

ANS: “I finally believed in myself enough to start recording. People heard me and liked what they heard. Plus, Like I said I’m from the same projects that Fabolous is from. Linking up with people that know his people wasn’t hard and he’s always supporting dope new artists.”

What is the most challenging thing you have overcome in your life?

ANS: “Honestly, THE STREETS. I’ve been out here hustling all my life so I’m used to certain lifestyle and letting go of certain behaviors, desires, and unhealthy thought patterns is the hardest because there are certain things you just can’t do in this industry.”

Are you currently signed or independent?

ANS: “I’m currently independent. The old business model of a record label making you a star is long gone. I think artists realized that before the labels did and that’s what messed the game up for them which is good for us.”

Who inspires you the most musically?

ANS: “Music is a vibration so that depends on my vibes at the time. Overall, I’d have to give it to someone like Marvin Gaye. If I could ask the vocal Gods for a man’s talent, range, knowledge of music, confidence, and star power it would be his. Not to mention Marvin had the ladies lol.”

What do you want people to take away after listening to your music?

ANS: “The pen is in your hands, write your own story.”

Any new music coming out soon?

ANS: “I just released a EP on 10/02/20 titled “iamKaseyMarcelle” it’s a 6-song project which is my way of introducing myself to a larger audience, basically the rest of the world. At the moment, it’s doing well on all music streaming platforms such as Spotify apple music and tidal.”
