Since its inception in 1978, Artexpo New York has revolutionized the art market, creating a dynamic platform for buying and selling art. This year, the fair will host over 200 exhibitors from around the globe, featuring a dazzling selection of original artwork, prints, paintings, drawings, sculpture, photography, ceramics, giclee, lithographs, glass works, and more.

Building a Foundation in Fine Arts

As a young girl, only eight years old, Mel was already deep into the world of drawing, showing a strong inclination towards fashion illustrations and outfit designs. This early passion not only highlighted her innate talent but also set the stage for a lifelong love affair with the aesthetic elements of design and art.

Recognizing the significance of a solid foundation, Mel pursued a fine arts education, aiming to master essential skills such as anatomy, drawing, painting, and color theory before venturing into fashion design. This strategic approach to her education was crucial, providing her with the tools needed to explore and excel in the art world confidently.

After her academic journey, Mel ventured into the fashion industry, where she thrived as a buyer for esteemed Italian designers like Stephano Ricci and Brioni. Her role required a keen eye for luxury, curating clothing and accessory collections for an upscale clientele. 

This experience helped hone her trend-setting abilities and offered deep insight into fashion design, materials, and the ever-evolving nature of style. And her frequent attendance at prestigious international fashion events, such as Milan Fashion Week, further enriched her understanding of the industry.

A Bold Leap into Art and Entrepreneurship

In 2019, Mel made a life-changing decision to relocate to Los Angeles to pursue a full-time career in art. It was a bold leap, fueled by her lifelong passion for painting and a desire to merge it with her fashion expertise. Her initial foray into combining these two loves involved painting her unique artwork on purses, transforming everyday items into exclusive works of art. 

This innovative approach caught the eye of the iconic fashion house Michael Kors, leading to a collaboration that saw Mel doing live paintings on their bags. The collaboration was a resounding success, generating record sales and turning each piece into a sought-after collectible.
