What does your company do?
FACE Skincare~Medical~Wellness is a beauty and wellness clinic offering cellular-level celebrity facials, laser treatments, injectables, body makeovers, naturopathic medicine, and IV Nutrient Therapy. Our goal is to use state-of-the-art technology and practices to help others feel and look their best.
What was a major challenge you had to overcome to get to where you are today?
One of the biggest challenges I had was my skin. I had severe cystic acne that pharmaceuticals couldn’t seem to fix. Eventually I discovered an amazing aesthetician who was able to help clear up my cystic acne and set me on the path to repairing my skin. From that moment, I wanted to know how I could repair my skin at the deepest cellular level. Eventually, I was able to repair 80% of my own acne scarring. This was a huge boost to my self-esteem and really encouraged me to start a clinic of my own, where I could help others achieve the same results.
Another challenge I faced that I’m sure many business owners come up against is money. When I decided to start my own clinic, I didn’t have the resources. I was able to borrow $3K from a friend to kickstart the process. Now the business sustains itself, but I’m very grateful to have had that support to get started.
What are some sacrifices you’ve made to get to where you are?
I’ve sacrificed everything at different times: my health, marriage, time with my kids, vacations, social time, even my sanity. When they say it takes blood, sweat, and tears, they mean it. It hasn’t been an easy journey, but it’s incredibly worthwhile. Over the last decade, I’ve found ways to better balance everything I need to do. I spend a lot more time with my family and am taking better care of myself, even though the pressure of the business hasn’t gone away.
What has surprised you most about running your own business?
People assume you’ll have more freedom if you’re your own boss, but the opposite is true. You’ll work harder and have more people to answer to, because the public will let you know if you’re doing well or not. The pressure is more intense than I could have imagined. I love running my own business, but it’s not as freeing as a lot of people think!
What accomplishments are you most proud of?
15 years ago, I started the business in a basement storage closet with $3K borrowed from a friend. We recently became a $5M company, which puts us in the top 1% in the nation. I’m so proud to have grown from such a small beginning!
What makes you stand out from others in your field?
At FACE Skincare~Medical~Wellness, we have over 40 different devices we can use to treat our clients, whereas the average medspa has 3-4. We also address beauty from the inside out with naturopathic medicine and IV nutrient therapy, versus a singular or topical-only approach.
