Metabolism – The Fastest And Most Sustainable Way To Get And Stay In Shape for Life

In today’s day and age, there are hundreds of different fitness programs out there, in addition to thousands of fitness articles, videos, social media posts, and more.
The most confusing part of it all is… most of them contradict one another.
So how does one get and stay in shape in today’s day and age?
And more importantly, how does one create a sustainable, enjoyable lifestyle while also getting great results?
This is the question I asked myself in 2018 when I first got out of shape.
After years of athletics and being focused on my fitness… it finally all fell to the wayside when, for the first time in life, I prioritized something other than fitness: my career.
I went from working 40 hours per week, to working 63+ hours per week, and my personal life, health, and fitness, completely fell off track.
I started to have a bloated gut, feeling self-conscious about my belly.
And my energy and motivation levels both took a significant dip compared to my youth.
Maybe you’ve been through something similar.
Whether it was career-related, business-related, family-related…
I’ve spoken to many people just like you who don’t have as much time as they did when they were younger, to work out, meal prep, etc.
And as a result, many busy parents, entrepreneurs, and professionals end up getting out of shape when they have kids, start a business, or advance in their careers, respectively.
So what was the answer to this question I asked myself 3 years ago?
The answer is to strip back all the fluff that overcomplicates fitness and wastes your time/energy and break it down into the simple essentials that allow you to build a healthy, fit body… WITHOUT it taking away from your career, family, or life in general.
And the solution is to focus on increasing your metabolism.
There’s a reason why some people struggle to get in shape no matter how hard they try, how many hours they spend working out and cooking while others seem to put in 0 effort at all yet stay in great shape.
The reason is that those with a fast metabolism don’t need to eat as strictly and don’t need to train as much if at all, to look good, whereas those with a slow metabolism can try all they want yet they never seem to lose weight.
So what can you do today to boost your metabolism and be able to live a great lifestyle where you don’t have to work out a ton or eat super strict to get and stay in shape?
There are essentially 2 main factors you need to consider when building your metabolism:
- Muscle Mass
And
- Hormones (Testosterone, Estrogen, Cortisol, Leptin, Thyroid Hormone, Insulin Specifically)
There are numerous studies that show that building muscle boosts your metabolism, and while the number of calories each lb. of muscle burns per day differs from person to person and study to study, the point is – building muscle will boost your metabolism, which means you will burn calories even while you’re sleeping and not working out, versus doing sweaty cardio workouts will burn calories while you’re working out, but usually won’t burn many calories after (unless we’re talking about strategic High-Intensity Interval Training which you can add in if you have time)
But if you don’t have a whole lot of time, you should prioritize training to build muscle, as you can build muscle in only 30-45 mins 3-4 times per week.
Now, when it comes to optimizing your hormones to boost your metabolism, without making this article 30 pages long, the simple answer is, consume low inflammation foods your body digests well, while also prioritizing getting at least 30-40g protein with each meal, and use a slow cooker to meal prep so that the food has an amazing texture, tastes great, and takes less than 10 minutes every other day to prepare.
If you can do this, you will be well on your way to being able to gain muscle, burn fat, boost your metabolism, and get + stay in great shape for life.
