Pomona Drey Talks about Dynamics of Music Production in the Digital Age And Value Creation

Value is the nucleus of any business. Pomona Drey believes artists are essentially entrepreneurs, actively running a creative business. They are expected to handle everything from ideation of new songs, performance, marketing themselves, and offering excellent customer service. To be a truly successful artist, it is necessary to think of your craft as your product and your brand as your business. This is where having value-adding content and ideas becomes incredibly useful. Sustainable brands in the music realm are built on the simple notion that adding and giving value first, before taking, will develop your brand and most importantly, build your audience base, their loyalty, trust, and authority.

Pomona Drey says consumer participation in value creation has been key to the success of his music career. He is a rapper, music producer, and public figure who continues to use his influence to foster social change. At the end of the day, he knows too well that he has to survive and make a name for himself. Music production is characterized by new dynamics, especially in the current digital age. The best investment one will make as a creative is on their audience.

Value for a musician can be analyzed based on three coherent themes: educational value, inspirational value, and entertaining value. An artist needs to organize their ideas within these parameters. Regardless of their approach, they need to include fans in the process. Pomona Drey occasionally engages his fans on social media to ascertain key issues that affect them in their respective societies. This way, he gains insights on educational aspects that he can include in his next song. At times, he creates customized songs that will inspire specific segments of people in the population. For instance, his single hit song “Great” was dedicated to his late foster mother.

The annotations in his music is meant to not only inspire but also encourage single mothers out there, that they need to be strong for their children. Musicians are meant to entertain but too much of this can make them seem irrelevant, after some time. This is why Pomona Drey strives to entertain during live performances, something done by a majority of modern-day rappers. His most recent song “Emojis” is one that he enjoys singing- it always gets him and his fans dancing to the up-tempo.

Value creation for a musician will inevitably depend on their talent, preferences, and goals. Pomona Drey insists that it is imperative to find what works best for you, your brand, and your audience. Still, it is imperative to stand out whenever you have the chance!
