Psilocybin Microdosing: Pros and Cons of Mushroom Chocolates

Because dark chocolate helps users acquire the right dose and hides the bitter taste of the mushrooms, it is a popular pairing for psilocybin microdosing. Many users are upbeat about the possible benefits of mushroom chocolate microdosing. Researchers aren’t quite sure about them yet, however. Magic mushrooms contain psilocybin, which gives them psychedelic properties. This explains the impact of mushroom chocolate. Some users think that eating chocolate with psilocybin may help them feel less anxious and more creative.

What is a microdose?

The use of microdosing is becoming increasingly widespread as more individuals search for non-pharmaceutical solutions to improve cognitive performance and treat mental health conditions. A microdose of psilocybin is not enough to provide a full-blown psychedelic experience. The precise meaning of a microdose is still up for debate, however.

According to Harvard University, it is challenging to do consistent research since there isn’t one widely recognized definition of microdosing for each psychedelic. The British Association of Psychopharmacology defines a microdose as 1/5 to 1/20 of a recreational dose. But there is a lot of variation within this range.

Harvard persists that two to three grams of dried mushrooms is a typical medium-strength psilocybin dosage, and a microdose is typically around 0.3 grams. The unexpected and uncontrollable potency of mushrooms outside of therapeutic settings may make it challenging to identify the appropriate dose.

Why chocolates with mushrooms?

Because it may help with dosage estimates and perhaps cover the bitter taste of the mushrooms, chocolate is a popular option for psilocybin users. The recipe for psilocybin mushroom chocolate is to mix finely crushed mushrooms with melted chocolate. Next, the fluid is poured into molds and let to cool and solidify.

Additional advantages of taking psilocybin with chocolate. With its high antioxidant content, dark chocolate, in particular, may help shield your cells from potential harm from free radicals. Because caffeine and magnesium are rich in this food, they both help with attention and memory. Therefore, they may also help with improving brain function.

Furthermore, by encouraging the body to produce endorphins, which are the body’s natural mood enhancers, dark mushroom chocolate may help lower stress and improve mood. Keeping the skin safe from pollutants and UV rays may help to improve skin health.

On the other hand, the health advantages of chocolate vary. Dark chocolate has benefits that milk and white chocolate do not. It seems sense that dark chocolate would be the recommended replacement for psilocybin, given its tendency to enhance mood and cognitive function.

Pros and cons of micro-dosing

Psilocybin seems to have potential use in the treatment of mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety, and PTSD. Although its effects could differ depending on the person, the quantity, and the surroundings, it is still illegal in many places. So, it’s imperative to proceed with prudence.

Positively, psilocybin could help improve mood. Many people report feeling happier and more optimistic after taking it. Additionally, it could boost creativity; individuals claim to feel more inspired and inventive. It may be easier to concentrate and finish work if psilocybin increases productivity and attentiveness. Some report that it reduces their anxiety and tension, which encourages relaxation. It could also encourage spiritual and personal growth, strengthening a person’s sense of self and interpersonal relationships.

Nevertheless, there are drawbacks to consider. One of the main issues is psilocybin’s legal status. Its use or possession is still illegal in many countries, and using it might get you into trouble with the law. The long-term effects of psilocybin are yet unknown, especially in relation to microdosing. Larger doses may produce undesirable effects, such as anxiety or paranoia, even if some users describe wonderful experiences. A precise dosage is hard to get since the potency of mushrooms may vary widely. Psilocybin may interact with a number of medications, especially antidepressants. Thus, it is imperative to see a doctor before taking it. Moreover, there is now little evidence to support the benefits of microdosing and inconsistent data on it.

In light of these factors, it’s essential to carefully consider the benefits and risks of psilocybin usage before taking it.

Mixed research findings

Psilocybin research continues to provide contradictory findings; it is not evident if the substance enhances cognition or is helpful in treating mental health issues.

For instance, studies published in Translational Psychiatry found no appreciable positive benefits of 0.5 grams of dried mushroom material on self-reported measures of creativity, cognition, physical activity, or mental health and well-being. Even while there was a propensity for worse performance on a number of cognitive tests, including the attentional blink and Stroop test, the study discovered that these effects weren’t consistent in all participants.

Nonetheless, a few studies using microdosing have had positive results. Data from the National Library of Medicine demonstrated that participants in microdosing had lower levels of stress, anxiety, and sadness. This result highlights the need for more research on the impact of microdosing on mental health.

Johns Hopkins Medicine researchers also discovered that psilocybin treatment was effective in reducing symptoms of major depressive disorder in adults for up to one month. In a follow-up, they found that supportive psychotherapy combined with psilocybin-assisted treatment might have at least a year-long antidepressant effect for some individuals. However, since the study did not specify the dosages used, it is unclear whether microdosing would have similar long-term consequences.

To sum up, psilocybin microdosing may have certain benefits, but it may also have some disadvantages. It’s important to think through these factors and consult a qualified healthcare provider before taking any action.
