Regan Nuchereno: How to Effectively Heal Your Body and Undo the Stress of Modern Day Living Through Movement

Pilates is becoming an increasingly popular wellness practice worldwide as more individuals seek to enhance their health and well-being through movement. Pilates is not only proven to have physical benefits but also improves our mental, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing.
Regan Nuchereno is the founder and owner of Regan Movement. A world-renowned movement artist, body mechanic, healer, and teacher, she specializes in using breath, connection, awareness, and movement to heal and strengthen the body. Furthermore, Regan has decades of experience behind her as she began her training in Pilates at 8 years old and at age 14, her dance career kicked off through practicing Gyrotonic and yoga.
Movement for self-care purposes
Movement can serve as a critical part of our self-care routine for our bodies. Relieving stress through mobility and release work helps to not only hydrate the tissues but also free the joints, and take pressure off our bones so the correct muscles can engage with ease.
As a former ballerina, Regan understands how a body moves and lives “in space”. She has witnessed people’s bodies no longer functioning at their optimal level, noticing their bodies working against them, stating “Poor posture, excessive sitting and breathing patterns are pulling people’s bodies out of alignment and creating compression. Also, it leads to gripping and dehydrating muscles and tissues, creating overall dysfunction, poor circulation, drainage, flow, low energy and mood.”.
Looking at the body as a whole
At Regan Movement, Regan teaches her clients functional movements and awareness. Under her expert guidance, they learn how to live and move effortlessly. She also teaches them how to build strength and improve their physical health through their daily physical tasks rather than over-exerting their bodies which she states causes premature aging and pain.
When working with her clients, Regan looks at the body as a whole rather than addressing the injury site alone. She is an expert at uncovering the root cause (or causes) that is putting stress on the injured area and creating excessive pain for the client. A few of her client wins include: A client who feels better, stronger and more connected in their body at age 75 than at 30, a client who can sit upright with their legs crossed for the first time since being a child, and a client who has improved their golf game, tennis game, ski and snowboarding, running, cycling, and walking.
The modern world is filled with distractions and temptations, and many of us indulge in much of it unconsciously. Many people end up becoming victims of their circumstances and either never start their healing journey or do not believe they can heal. However, Regan believes our bodies are not broken, stating, “the body is an absolutely incredible, perfect machine. Life happens, so you must be kind to yourself and be curious about learning and growing in your body. You can always change and heal and be stronger than ever before.”
