In a bold move set to reshape the gaming industry, decorated Combat Veteran, a pro video gamer, and a serial entrepreneur Preston Eckhardt announces the highly anticipated launch of Citadel Esports Cafe and Academy. This groundbreaking venture that is set to introduce an innovative fusion of cutting-edge entertainment venues and esports training programs promises a revolutionary gaming experience, transcending traditional boundaries. 

Preston Eckhardt, a seasoned Combat Veteran, founder of “Ares Investing” – the world’s first Veteran and first-responder exclusive investment intelligence firm, former Lead Crypto Index Analyst at CoinDesk, and a top-ranking gamer with years of experience brings a wealth of expertise to Citadel. Playing a pivotal role in the success of the US Army esports team and achievements like the Challenger Rank in League of Legends, alongside serving as a Combat Advisor and Intelligence Sergeant in sensitive areas like Afghanistan and Korea for the US Army, Eckhardt has been a proven leader in both the gaming and military domains. 

The idea of Citadel Esports Cafe was born from Eckhardt’s commitment to combating the sense of loneliness rising in the gaming world. In the 21st century, it’s become quite common for video gamers to stay isolated from the world, making it difficult for them to form human connections. Citadel aims to step in and create a haven for social interactions, understanding and sharing moments for gamers and gaming enthusiasts. Preston envisions Citadel to be a place that would go beyond being just a gaming spot, he sees it as a vibrant hub that would nurture a sense of camaraderie among gaming fans.

He says,

“Gaming nowadays lacks the human connection and empathy it once had. Citadel Esports Cafe is my way of bringing back that love and creating an environment where people can connect, compete, and have a good time together.”

Citadel Esports Cafe draws inspiration from popular European and Asian models to revolutionize social gaming in the US. Kicking off in February 2024, the cafe will be offering an all-inclusive experience with modern and retro games, with a range of options from League of Legends to Call of Duty. Players will be provided gaming PCs, consoles, arcades as well as tabletop gaming along with Citadel’s own web3-driven Esports software where they can access all the games with a monthly subscription or an hourly booking and log in to their own accounts to save the game’s progress. Snacks and drinks will be available all times at the cafe to create the ultimate hang out spot for video game lovers. Citadel aims to develop a dynamic gaming space with a rotating selection of games, fostering nostalgia and excitement for diverse gaming communities.

 

Parallel to the “barcade” style gaming cafe, Eckhardt is also launching Citadel Esports Academy concurrently, which will be operating from the same locations as the cafes. It will offer a range of innovative consulting programs designed to empower gaming enthusiasts, initially of ages 12-17. They will learn from experts, practice on Citadel’s high-tech computers, parallel to competing in pro leagues. From gaming skill mastery to content creation and fostering entrepreneurial blueprints, the academy’s mission is to build a community of successful gaming entrepreneurs equipped to thrive in the ever-evolving gaming industry, especially when AI may be bringing a paradigm shift in the employment landscape shortly.

With the inaugural Citadel Esports Cafe in Wyandotte, Michigan, Eckhardt pictures a rapid expansion into key US markets, starting from Texas, California, and New York. He also expects international partnerships in Mexico soon, further signaling Citadel’s ambition to become a global player in the esports arena.
