Rupinder Sehmbi: The Legal Assistant Turned Mortgage Agent

Rupinder worked as a legal assistant to a lawyer. She has excellent customer service and multi-tasking skills with 11 years of experience in the legal environment. She started her career at Sangha Law Office from 2010 to 2014. Her hard work, dedication, and talents saw her stay there for four years before taking her expertise to another firm – Real Corp Law Professional Corporation in May of 2014 till December 2017. Her husband owned and ran a successful construction company. In 2018 they were blessed with a baby girl and after maternity she continued her part-time work as a legal assistant. When the pandemic hit, life changed for many people. For Rupinder Sehmbi, life was already changing leading up to the lockdowns and quarantines.
During her time as a legal assistant, Rupinder familiarized herself with real estate transactions and documents, and her increasing interest in mortgages eventually blossomed into a real professional attempt to become a licensed mortgage agent. So, she studied and prepared, all the while continuing her work as a legal assistant. Fast forward to 2020, the decade-long veteran legal assistant, now a doting mother of one, finally achieved her license as a mortgage agent and joined one of the leading mortgage agencies in Canada: Mortgage Alliance.
At Mortgage Alliance, Rupinder brings the same hard work, dedication, and talent she was renowned for as a legal assistant to the Canadian brokerage. Only this time instead of studying and preparing other’s mortgage transactions and documents, she’s now accomplishing them for her very own clients. We caught up with Rupinder and asked her to tell us just how she ended up as a legal assistant slash mortgage agent, and she had this to say: “I always loved my work preparing documents for sale, purchase and refinance transactions. My favorite part was when we got mortgage instructions for the purchase or refinance closings. I always wanted to learn about mortgage-related things. It took me a long time to make the decision to join REMIC and study for a mortgage course to get licensed.”
“For a long time, I have been determined to do better on my own and even though it took time, I see it coming to fruition. This lock-down time proved to be beneficial for me. I’m the mother of a three-year-old girl and I got the grace to spend a lot of time with my daughter. Working from home became easier, and I was able to focus more on my studies. And now that my daughter enrolls in pre-school, I’ll be working full-time again. My daughter is very excited to enroll in Pre-School! It is her smile that brings a smile to me all the time. She is the reason that keeps me moving forward with steadfastness.” She concluded.
As a mortgage agent for Canada’s leading brokerage, you’d think Rupinder would have been nervous about upholding the standard of service and results required to properly represent Mortgage Alliance, but the steely part-time legal assistant already knew how she wanted to change the mortgage game and set herself apart from the competition, “I am really attracted to this field not just because it’s good to help people get the best financing for their homes, but also because of the effort it takes to uplift someone’s life and living space. I understand completely how stressful mortgages can be, so I work to find the right mortgage with rates to perfectly suit the client’s budget and situation. These people trying to live their best lives deserve the best lenders offering the best loan options relative to their needs, so I’m proud to be a part of that.”
Rupinder also prides herself on delivering a “service that is transparent, straightforward, and does not waste my client’s time” no matter how complex their situation, or less-than-stellar their credit record. She also touts the convenience of her service, saying “For honest, reliable & professional mortgage services I am just a phone call away, and I make myself available for my clients throughout the week.”
With regards to her goals as a mortgage agent, Rupinder had a simple answer for us: “My goal has always been to provide excellent customer service and find the answer to any and all questions brought to me. If I don’t know the answer, you can bet I will find out! I sincerely hope clients will give me the opportunity to help them with their real estate borrowing needs whenever or wherever they may arise. I am always excited to make sure that clients have the information they need to make an educated decision about their mortgage.”
