Surkhab Anjum- a sorceress who swings her magical makeup brushes and do the wonders

When people hear the words “makeup artist” the first thing that usually comes to mind is beauty. A makeup artist acts as a magician for the skin which uses it’s magic wand to enhance the beauty of a person. So, let’s put a limelight on such a sorceress who has magic in her hands & power to transform the appearance of a person and she is none other than a brilliant makeup artist, Surkhab Anjum. Since childhood, Surkhab began to get interested in make-up. She really got fascinated by the ways of her mom applying makeup. She used to pick up her mom’s lipsticks and other makeup stuff and tried to apply on herself. These little activities indeed kindled a flame in her mind at that moment. Then she completed her bachelor’s in Arts from MCM Dav college, Chandigarh and finally decided to transform her passion into her profession. Her curious, creative mind, passion and love for makeup led her to develop an interest in the art of making people look beautiful. Secondly, it is in her blood. Her dad was a Padamshree, Padambhushan in literature and poetry. So, being born to artistic genes, Surkhab’s lifestyle has been quite artistic too. Now, Surkhab owns a makeup studio in Panchkula and also a nightwear label called bearhuggs.

“The amount of exposure I received from my dad was enough for a person to receive in one lifetime. I spent a lot of time talking to him and discovering the creative aspects of my personality. Meeting different kinds of people, socializing with classical singers, Bollywood celebrities was a part of my early years. It was in 2013, when I visited the Middle East and started developing a deeper insight of my thoughts and gradually chose makeup as a career,” says Surkhab.

She further adds,” It took me a lot of time to get to where I am now, years of experience about different variations of products, skin tones, a clear understanding of color, lines and angles of the face and body, texture and how different lighting affects the appearance of a color and how different eyeshadows work for different people. This understanding forms the basis of every look that is conceptualized. On the independent journey of my career, now I am successfully running my business and working with celebrities, fashion houses, photo shoots, bridal and so on. It’s been an overwhelming journey with the right support of my family and clients.

Surkhab Anjum finds beauty and inspiration everywhere. She has an artistic eye and the ability to enhance or beautify natural look. Her work has been featured in many fashion and lifestyle magazines.

Surkhab says, ” Being an artist, it is very difficult to feel refreshed and motivated all the time but the diverse creative people I meet, encourage & inspire me in every way. The smile I see on their faces is the real reward for me. I believe all women are truly beautiful and makeup can transform and take their look to another level”. Anjum’s unflinching zeal to learn and an indomitable will to succeed has helped her pave the way for the zenith of success.

This Chandigarh based makeup artist Surkhab is acing the art of creating beauty wherever she goes with her prolific knowledge and acumen of the beauty industry. Earlier this year, Surkhab started her own beauty brand- Volt Beauty. Surkhab has always loved doing different eyeshadow looks and one day out of passion, she decided to start her eyelash brand”.

Due to her hard work and peer appraisals.  She got a chance to work with eminent celebrities like Ira Dubey, House of Misu, Nitibha Kaul, Aanchal Munjal etcetera. She also attended masterclasses in Dubai with Mario, Kim Kardashian and Huda Beauty. The odyssey, which was started about 6 years ago, is today an inspirational take for people across the region.
