Women Who Disrupt

The Critically Acclaimed Work Of Film Producer And Musician Amrita Kalsi

Amrita Kalsi is a powerhouse of a producer and creative artist, who is also a composer and a classical pianist – among many, many other things. She is a renaissance woman and even that is understating her vast skills and talents in the entertainment industry. She currently works in a writer’s room for an upcoming Canadian TV series produced by Bell Media and Blink49 Studios, after previously working in creative development for Amazon Studios. As first-generation Punjabi-Canadian from Montreal, Canada, Kalsi is proud to make her mark in both the Canadian and American entertainment industry, working alongside exceptional talent on high-caliber projects. Her journey to where she is now is not only inspirational, but it has also required constant innovation and reinvention in the face of major roadblocks along the way.

She began her professional career as a junior editor and videographer at a Montreal production company Rebl House Inc. She later worked as a Creative Consultant for impact-driven startups based in the booming East African tech market, building their marketing and communications platforms so they can reach clients at scale and help close their seed funding round. That included pitching to and helping one of her clients, M-Shule, win the Google Impact Challenge and Nairobi Innovation Week in 2018.

She has worked at her dream companies, including Nickelodeon, Disney and worked on the screen producing team on Netflix’s AMEND, a docuseries about the 14th amendment starring Will Smith. Most notably, she supported the creative development and current series team for Amazon Studios’ animation group, which produced hit shows like Invincible, Legend of Vox Machina and the Emmy-nominated The Boys Presents: Diabolical. Kalsi is highly skilled and experienced in creative development for television & film, from script analysis, to scouting talent, as well as production management and line producing.

This creative force called Amrita Kalsi is also an accomplished music producer and director. She directed and composed music for her film, Marjanah, which received an honorable mention for directing at the Women Directors Film Carnival, a Best Composer nomination at Los Angeles Independent Women Film Awards and a Best Music nomination in the music and film category at the Hollywood Screenings Festival. She is currently producing and scoring an animated short film, Casey, which explores the loving relationship between a rescue dog and a chronic illness warrior, based on real events in the film director’s life. Kalsi is producing and writing a musical album on Spotify, Kamala-by-the-Sea, a 1980s-themed musical commemorating her love for California and exploring the process of discovering one’s strength through grief.

While consulting on various independent animation and music projects, she is currently working for a TV writer’s room for a Bell Media and Blink49 detective series called Sight Unseen. More recently, Kalsi was selected in the highly competitive Unlock Her Potential mentorship program, created by Sophia Chang.
