The Emergence of the Robotics Economy

With greater technological advancement, we are seeing things in the world that clearly seem out of a sci-fi movie. Robots are the new norm. Robotic technologies powered by Artificial Intelligence and other innovations come to assist, improve, and deliver what’s being expected in today’s complex world.

Autonomous electric cars, touchscreen devices, pilotless drones, and teleconferencing are just a few examples of the latest technological advancements in today’s world. In the next decade, robots will establish a presence in each facet of our everyday life, as many other technologies and innovations have done before.

Just as many widely used consumer devices did not exist merely 20-30 years ago, a parallel can be drawn in the latest innovations taking place in physical security, asset protection, and public safety solutions.

An example is the mobile smart video surveillance system that recognizes potential intruders or reports facility issues and prevents crime at the same time, protecting assets by providing a higher level of security and monitoring using state of the art artificial intelligence.

Increased Need For Smart Surveillance Systems

The previous technology of video surveillance systems has almost reached the point of being obsolete. Most asset protection companies are facing unprecedented challenges with hiring and training security guards to meet increasing expectations by existing and new clients. The whole security industry must be reinvented to adopt a new way of focusing on public safety, physical security and asset protection by implementing a PROACTIVE and PREVENTIVE approach.

“Robotic technologies powered by Artificial Intelligence and other innovations come to assist, improve, and deliver what’s being expected in today’s complex world.”

The quality of service of existing security providers (PPO) is unable to meet the needs and demands of organizations. One of the major reasons is that organizations (commercial, non-profit, and government) are not able to process the amount of incoming data, assess risk, and potentially treat what has become a daily operating routine. With more than a hundred video cameras for every guard in the workforce, just the overhead of keeping an eye on video cameras with hundreds of thousands of viewing hours of footage is overwhelming.

Most guards are forced to be in physical contact with large numbers of people or are required to work in extreme weather conditions, working longer hours due to downsizing, and other factors. This puts the lives and health of security professionals at risk. As the pandemic taught us, this can have a massive effect on people as well as the economy.

California-based developer, SMP Robotics – founded in 2010 – has a dynamic proven solution: fully autonomous smart security robots that monitor an area independently using real-time obstacle avoidance, face recognition, and thermal cameras. Every incoming video of any abnormal or suspicious behavior is captured and recorded by the robot’s multiple cameras. Instantly, in real-time, the data is analyzed by the computer system for any unlawful activity or threat. Upon determination of the problem, an immediate notification is dispatched to the security command center and guards on duty, along with warnings to engage, intercept, or investigate. This instantly produces a resolution without requiring a large workforce to review or analyze the filming.

The advantages of implementing such autonomous security solutions into every security operation is obvious. The deployment of security robots and other autonomous solutions would dramatically reduce liability and overhead, while also improving quality and level of delivered services.

Autonomous robotic technologies will become a driving force in future security solutions,” says Leo Ryzhenko, CEO of SMP Robotics .

Using robots for security purposes has potential for all types of businesses. In the context of the latest pandemic, robots deliver a tremendous value to companies in terms of reducing security operational costs and liability, improve reliability, and expand areas of service coverage. They are especially useful for monitoring large areas such as factories, fields, golf courses, and private property, as well as malls, parks, museums, and other places where a large number of people are present or where a large or remote space has to be monitored.

“This technology has a tremendous proactive economic impact on every business utilizing any type of physical security protocol,” says Leo Ryzhenko.

And while the technology is new and still innovating, smart security robots are already becoming commonplace. From being deployed by police to reduce crime to assisting frontline and essential workers in hospitals and shopping malls, autonomous robots have been making the news lately. News reports state various advantages of using robots. One advantage is a reduction in the exposure risk for frontline workers. Another advantage is keeping humans out of unsafe, dangerous, and hazardous environments. Indeed, replacing humans with robots for dangerous jobs and in dangerous environments can help reduce the risk and safety hazard for workers.

No adverse effect on costs

Leo Ryzhenko, CEO of SMP Robotics, says that using robotics technology for security purposes will not increase the costs to a business. On the contrary, overall costs will decrease while productivity and quality of service increases. This is because the workforce can focus on what’s most important and businesses will need to employ only the most necessary workers. In addition, workplace safety and employee morale will improve as robots replace humans in dangerous and difficult work environments. The result is better quality, happier workers, and more affordable prices.

“Using robotics technology for security purposes will not increase the costs to a business. On the contrary, overall costs will decrease while productivity and quality of service increases.”

Due to the cost savings and the relative low cost of obtaining the technology, to everyone’s benefit many more companies can implement robotics into their security service operations at better cost and train their personnel to become more technology savvy, increasing productivity and effectiveness.

The right solution for the Post-Covid world

Leo Ryzhenko says, “The current Covid-19 pandemic and economic downturn bring additional factors to the demand for security services.”

The post-Covid world has seen unprecedented changes in the work environment. More people are exchanging the office environment for a remote work system, and social distancing and taking greater measures to ensure employee health in the workplace are centerpieces. The use of robotics technology will assist these post-Covid workplace challenges.

To summarize, the implementation of robots and innovative robotic technologies are impacting businesses in a positive way. It’s driving efficiency levels tremendously and reshaping businesses and their workforce, making employees more tech-savvy, enjoying higher pay and being able to face an inevitable future in better working conditions.
