Painting requires a lot of precision and patience for one to do the appropriate thing. Hurrying up or skipping steps can lead to a botched job with a lot of frustrations. Take your time to prepare and if it is your first time to paint, make sure you ask That Painter who is reliable and is known to produce amazing works when it comes to professional painting. For large painting projects, it is important to look for assistance so that you don’t do unsatisfactory work. If you want your painting work to be adorable, here are some things you need to avoid.

Don’t Skip Preparation Stage

According to Colour Life Commercial Painters, preparing the painting site is something that many people don’t like yet it’s a very crucial step. It takes a lot of time and it may even require additional expenses. The fact is, lack of proper preparation makes your paint not stick well and after some time, you may see it has started peeling off.

Preparation includes removing the already existing paint from the walls. This will ensure you create a smooth surface so that you apply the paint on a flat surface. Once the old paint is no more, embark on the cleaning of the walls so that you don’t apply the paint on a dirt surface. You can use the pressure washers or you can simply wash using a wet cloth and wiping towels. Patch over holes and fissures so that you get a uniform surface that you can paint over without doing a lot of work. Ensure all surfaces are spotless before you begin to apply the paint.

Don’t Leave Old Paint on Your Wall

The current paints are manufactured with features to prevent compromise of human health. This is unlike the old paints that used to contain a lot of Lead. Lead spreads airborne and besides affecting the eyes, it also causes respiratory issues among them coughing and lung irritation.

If the walls you want to paint have paint that was applied some decades ago, cover your eyes and mouth before you begin peeling it out of the wall. Always protect your eyes and avoid inhaling the dust from the old dry paint because it could cause some health problems for you.

You can have the old paint tested for lead before you start working on it. If you can’t get a lead testing expert, just make sure you don’t do the painting work without wearing protective gear to prevent you from inhaling the dust.

Never Apply Paint on a Moist Surface

Most people are quick at using stain and mold-blocking primers. The truth is that these two things just stop molds for some time but the mold reappears making the paint to be broken and peeled. Make sure you look at the source of the mold, it could be a leak on the roof, grass that grows from the ground up to the wall, insects that produce moist droppings on your wall, and other things. Whatever it is, just eliminate the source of the mold and moisture before you apply your paint.

Paint that is applied on a moist surface doesn’t attach well which means it will not be that reliable. As a result, make sure you dry your wall, eliminate source moisture before you apply the paint. Even after you physically remove stains and molds, it is also recommended that you use a primer.

Never Apply Paint Without a Primer

You will agree that paint has poor adhesion with bare walls. Walls, especially plastered walls have a lot of holes and potholes that you may feel to recognize. These small holes normally reduce the paint’s attachment thereby making the peel out of the wall after some time. If you don’t apply a primer, you may end up applying the paint on a surface that is not properly attaching to the paint. Use primers, primers fill the holes and uneven surfaces ensuring the paint gets a perfect surface for it to attach. This will help to ensure adhesion between the wall and the paint is strong enough to keep the paint in position for long. Apply the appropriate amount of paint if you want the paint to stick well and have a sparkling appearance for a long time.

Conclusion

These few tips are meant to enable painters to do the appropriate work. If it is your first time painting or you are looking for ideas on how to paint, you need to follow these tips properly. Find out the best wall cleaning materials, research the best paint brands and if you are not sure, you can contact paint experts who will ensure that you get the appropriate information. Being in a hurry to paint your house will yield a lot of mistakes that can make you to mess up with your walls.
