Webstarted Revolutionizes Remote Team Building with Cost Savings, Diversity and Latin American Expertise

Scaling up teams of remote employees can present serious challenges, even as more and more companies continue to move away from brick-and-mortar offices toward virtual workspaces.

But where some firms see obstacles, Webstarted and its CEO Javier Caruso see opportunities—to harness the benefits of expanding globalization, and diversity, to generate cost savings and efficiency.

Launched before the pandemic triggered a global shift to remote working, Webstarted assists companies in need of software engineers by helping them assemble teams of remote employees. Webstarted also prioritizes venture capital firms, and startups during any funding series, that are in search of engineers.

The core of Webstarted’s strategy lies with WebstartedHR, a product that allows companies, candidates, recruiters and agencies to work together. WebstartedHR provides structure to the company’s vision and allows it to pivot quickly and scale up with an expanded recruitment team as demand for the company’s services increases.

Adding nuance to the Webstarted strategy is the manner in which Javier and his team bring a fresh perspective to helping companies build a remote workforce. Webstarted taps the deep well of expertise found among software devs in Latin America.

“LatAm has a diverse and vibrant culture, and hiring software devs from the region can bring a unique perspective and approach to your team,” said Javier, who has more than 10 years of experience working remotely. “LatAm is home to a large and growing pool of talented software devs, which makes it easier to find the right candidate for your team.”

Anchored by a database with 39,000 employee candidates, 93 percent of whom are based in Latin America, Webstarted offers guidance and supports companies with:

  • Recruiting
  • Hiring
  • Administration
  • Paperwork
  • Screening
  • NDAs
  • Hardware/software
  • Billing

As Webstarted takes on these responsibilities and harnesses the power of remote engineers, firms can focus on the most important piece of their puzzle—their product. At the same time, Webstarted assists software engineers looking to land gigs while ensuring they benefit from a remote-ready, home office environment propelled by state-of-the-art tools and inspiration.

Webstarted success stories include helping a well-known software security firm hire more than a dozen candidates over the past 3 years; and helping a luxury watch company fill all of its open software positions in just a few short months.

Two critical points that the Webstarted strategy addresses are cost and work schedules.

The cost of hiring software devs based in Latin America is more competitive than in the U.S. And because time zones in Latin America align with time zones in the U.S., there is an increased flexibility advantage when it comes to collaboration and communication among remote team members. This adds to the seamless workflow that is a cornerstone of the Webstarted approach to team building.

Webstarted’s strategy for growth also includes building upon the success of offerings that support its core mission of recruiting software developers from Latin America, These offerings include the:

  • Webstarted Academy: A training space for junior talent and recruiters.
  • Webstarted Gifts: A service layer to promote retention in companies.

Overall, Webstarted’s niche offering of building remote teams maintains an urgency and immediacy and lets companies and candidates stay out in front of emerging trends.

According to a 2020 study from the International Labour Organization, roughly 17 percent of the world’s workforce—1.4 billion people—were working from home because of the COVID-19 pandemic. And even as pandemic restrictions were lifted, remote work remained in place for many in the wake of the health crisis that altered the work environment forever.

But even before the pandemic, remote work was taking hold

A 2019 study by Global Workplace Analytics estimated that 3.6 percent of the total U.S. workforce—5.2 million people—were working from home half-time or more. That number was projected to reach 5.3 percent by 2021.

A study by FlexJobs in 2021 reported that the number of remote workers had increased by a staggering 91 percent since the start of the pandemic.

Underscoring Webstarted’s global approach to building strong teams is the firm’s focus on the human element that lies at the heart of any successful company and product.

“We are a team of passionate people,” Javier said. “We love to help companies grow and succeed.”
