What Is Big Data Engineer? And Why Do You Need One for Your Business?

Big data means big business. Qualified professionals are needed to help businesses and organizations transform data into usable applications. A special type of expert is needed to tap into the enormous power of large amounts of data generated in the digital environment: the Big Data Engineer.

Keep reading to find out who Big Data Engineers are, their role, and the importance of these engineers for improving business results.

In the end, you’ll see why you might need a big data engineer on your team.

What’s Big Data?

Big Data refers to the enormous amount of digital data generated by humans and devices every day. It is too big, too complex, and too fast that standard methods can handle.

Data is continually generated by transactions, actions, interactions, and connections among users, devices, infrastructures, and systems. It comes from social networks, websites, apps, and sensors.

Big Data has many applications, but the most widely used is to predict user behavior. Big Data can also be used to monitor large-scale financial activities, detect fraud, optimize transport and energy services, and other uses.

Big Data Sources

Data used to be stored mostly in paper records. It was created by humans. It seems like almost every object can produce usable data.

Smart things – The Internet of Things describes all connected devices that transmit data to other systems. Wearables, smart appliances in the home, smart cars, and other connected devices can stream information. This ranges from simple sensors to complex industrial assembly lines. They can generate real-time information that can be organized or analyzed.

Humans still produce a lot of information. Most of it is semi-structured or unstructured. Some data can be deliberate, such as social media comments, and multimedia content in sound, image, or text form. Other data is consequential and generated by devices that already produce parallel information such as location.

All stored data from private or public sources is made accessible every year. These data are stored in data lakes and cloud storage services. They include open-data portals, digital archives, logs, and digital archives.

Big Data’s complexity, the sheer volume, and the need for specialized professionals who can harvest, store and organize raw data in order to make it useful.

Big Data Engineer definition

Big Data Engineers design, develop, integrate, maintain and test data processing systems that can handle data on a large scale.

Big Data can be described as a powerful river. The Big Data Engineer is responsible for planning, building, and optimizing dams to harness their power of it. This will turn chaos into energy. Big Data is about turning noise into useful and actionable data.

What does a Big Data Engineer do?

Big data engineering service is responsible for creating and maintaining a high-quality data-processing environment. This includes choosing and implementing appropriate standards, selecting the right tools and designing data management processes. These actions should meet the business and governance objectives of the organization.

Big Data Engineers manage infrastructure design, data processing methods, and system maintenance and development. They also conduct research and manage. They are expected to:

  • Create and implement a data processing platform
  • Design highly scalable data mining and storage systems.
  • You can choose from three storage options: data warehouses or data lakes; and data clouds or data warehouses.
