5 Tips for Maximizing the PR Value of Your Guest Podcast Appearance

Podcasting is becoming increasingly mainstream. In 2022, 70% of the US population have heard of “podcasting;” Having guests on podcasts is becoming a standard part of PR campaigns.

Podcasts are an excellent public relations tool because their primary format is an interview between a host and a guest expert. An interview on a podcast is a great way to get free publicity and reach a new audience, whether you’re a company launching a new product, an author releasing a book, an expert seeking more recognition, or just a regular person with an exciting story to tell.

Although making guest appearances has become a popular PR strategy due to their benefits in terms of increased exposure and favorable brand association, fierce competition has arisen for spots on the most popular talk shows. Some public relations agencies now include podcast guesting in their packages.

Making an appearance as a guest on a podcast can be a great way to boost your public profile. To maximize the publicity you receive from your guest podcast appearance, consider the following five strategies:

Promote The Show

Your expert status and positive association with the show are significant earned media successes. You can increase your exposure to the podcast’s audience and your own network by promoting the episode on which you are a guest. The host can benefit from increased exposure through the show’s promotion in the same way. You should promote your interview immediately after it airs and in the future by adding it to a content calendar or scheduler.

Use Hashtags

When you use hashtags associated with the podcast’s topic, you increase the likelihood that listeners interested in the subject will discover the episode in which you are featured. It will also appear in results for those hashtags, bringing more attention to you and your show. You should use relevant topical hashtags as well as any podcast-specific hashtags.

Engage with the Host on Social Media

Be sure to include the host’s social media handles in any social media posts you make. This is a fantastic chance to express your gratitude openly for being featured on the show. What’s more, it promotes the company’s brand awareness of you. It’s a great way to get your episode in front of more people and help it rank higher in search results, expanding its audience.

Repurpose the Content

The PR benefits you reap from making a guest appearance on a podcast can be maximized by repurposing the content in various ways. The transcripts of interviews can be repurposed as blog posts or other written content, while graphics made from interview soundbites are perfect for sharing on social media. You may have noticed animated soundwaves appearing in your social media feed recently, created from short audio clips.

Add it to your Media Kit

Think of your podcast interview like any other media hit and include it in your media room and media kit. This will give your press kit fresh air and demonstrate that you are adept in various interview settings.

There is no time limit or shelf life on promoting your podcast interviews unless they are centered on a time-sensitive topic and can become dated. One podcast interview can pay off in ways you can’t imagine. Regularly rebroadcasting the episode or a modified version will yield the best results.
