6 Ingredients That Will Skyrocket Your Focus and Success

In 2008, Gloria Mark published a study that she conducted at the University of California, drawing attention to some very compelling statistics on the cost of daily interruptions within the workplace. What she discovered was that small interruptions throughout the day were not a huge time expense, but were incredibly costly in terms of stress. Interrupted participants attempted to make up for lost productivity by working faster, which Mark noted “…comes at a price,” with participants “experiencing more stress, higher frustration, time pressure and effort.”

Back in 2008 when this study was originally published, the stimuli used to interrupt the participants included telephone calls to landlines and computer IM’s (also known as Instant Messaging – if you know, you know). Fast forward to today, and the amount of potential disruptive stimuli has radically increased, with interruptions cleverly euphemized as “notifications.” On any given day, iPhone users receive on average 46 of these interruptions, which can take anywhere from 1 to 25 minutes to refocus from.

Though Mark’s commonly referenced study draws attention to the ease in which many can be distracted, California is now home to another discovery that is working to remediate the perils of focus fatigue resulting from over-stimulation. Siblings Chelsea and Mitch Glaser are the powerhouse founders of Fredi: a California based wellness company responsible for re-defining wellness in the workplace. Launched in 2019, Fredi is driven by the goal of helping women cultivate burn-out resistant brains through self-care so that ambitious women can consistently show up feeling their best, allowing them to perform their best.

“We believe that success starts from within. When you take care of yourself and practice wellness, you feel great, and when you feel great, you’re able to focus better and do your best work,” commented co-founder Chelsea Glaser.

The innovative idea behind Fredi was a byproduct of the nearly six-year investment banking career Mitch Glaser had on Wall Street. The turbulent, fast-paced and high-stress lifestyle Wall Street demanded led Mitch to experiment with different ways to increase his energy and manage stress. Eventually, this journey led to a transformation in his mental, physical, and professional health, laying the groundwork that Fredi was later built on.

Sharing the same passions for wellness, entrepreneurship, and empowering others to be their best self, Chelsea Glaser joined her brother as Fredi’s co-founder, bringing her experience as an effervescent serial entrepreneur and brand strategist to the team. Through her work as the co-founder of her branding agency, Launch It Girl, she has worked with many ambitious women who are balancing it all— from motherhood to full time jobs to side hustles. As she got to know these women, she saw endless examples of why focus is such a challenge, and why so many suffer from burnout. Determined to help, she enthusiastically joined her brother in his mission to make brain health easier, and co-founded Fredi.

Fredi’s first product, Focused by Fredi, was designed to help consumers feel sharp, collected, and energized throughout the entire day. The all-natural daily supplement provides nutrients promoting focus, memory, energy, mental clarity, and stress reduction. The formula consists of six all-natural ingredients: green coffee bean, L-theanine, citicoline (cognizin), lion’s mane, ashwagandha root and bacopa leaf.

Listed below are the six ingredients comprising the Focused by Fredi formula and the benefits they provide:

Green Coffee Bean – 50 mg

There’s a reason that some people claim they have a hard time functioning without their morning cup of coffee. Raw and unroasted, green coffee beans contain an abundant supply of the antioxidant compounds known as chlorogenic acids, which can reduce blood pressure and cholesterol levels. The human body can quickly absorb chlorogenic acid, making it easy to consume on a daily basis, especially in the form of a supplement like Fredi’s. 50 mg of green coffee bean contains roughly about as much natural caffeine as half of a cup of coffee. The combination of caffeine and chlorogenic acids are thought to be responsible for the bean’s health benefits. The American Psychological Association found that caffeine has major effects on psychomotor, cognitive performance and psychological well-being..

L-Theanine – 200 mg

The 200 mg of this amino acid contained inside of Focused by Fredi should do the trick to help regulate stress and anxiety, as well as boost cognitive function. Mostly found in green tea leaves, L-Theanine promotes relaxation without drowsiness, according to a 2008 study. When paired with caffeine, it has been proven to help increase focus and attention, according to research conducted in 2013 that focused on a group of young adults who were performing demanding tasks. Another 2009 study concluded that the compound could decrease anxiety and improve symptoms after focusing on people with schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder. The effects are reportedly felt in as little as 30 minutes after consumption. Other health benefits include improvement of the body’s immune system.

Citicoline (Cognizin) – 250 mg

Choline, a natural nutrient, can be found in foods that are common in the human diet, like eggs, salmon, beef, liver, and brussels sprouts. It also plays a variety of critical roles in maintaining a healthy body and mind. Brain development, muscle movement, metabolism, liver function, and nervous system function all require choline. Regular choline supplements offer various health benefits in its purest form, however, when you throw Cognizin into the mix, you get all of the benefits of choline, plus more. Referred to as a “potent brain-health nutrient,” Cognizin is a proprietary form of citicoline that has proved to support mental energy, focus, and attention.

Lion’s Mane – 250 mg

With one glance at the large, furry mushroom, it isn’t difficult to guess where it got its name. Resembling a lion’s mane, the mushroom is full of bioactive substances that benefit the body. Particularly targeting the brain, heart, and gut, it serves as both a culinary and medical ingredient. Its ability to slow the harmful effects of aging on the brain was a key element in its inclusion in Focused by Fredi. Studies have found that lion’s mane mushrooms contain hericenones and erinacines, two compounds that stimulate the growth of brain cells. Further animal studies have revealed that the mushroom may protect against Alzheimer’s disease. A 2009 study concluded that consuming 3 grams of powdered lion’s mane daily for four months improved the mental functioning of older adults suffering from mild cognitive impairment.

Ashwagandha Root – 250 mg

This small, evergreen shrub is an adaptogenic herb known to improve the body’s ability to respond to stress. It contains chemicals that can help calm the brain, reduce swelling, lower blood pressure, and alter the immune system by enhancing cells. Research has shown that taking 300 mg of the root extract twice daily for 60 days appears to improve symptoms of stress. It also has been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects and relax the central nervous system, according to the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

Bacopa Leaf – 250 mg

Known to improve memory and recall, this increasingly popular herb can do more than just help you to remember your keys in the morning. It significantly improves the speed of processing visual information, learning rate, and memory, according to a 12-week study that monitored the effects the herb had on 46 healthy adults who took 300 mg of Bacopa monnieri daily. This is largely due to bacosides, the main active compounds found in Bacopa, that have antioxidant effects on the brain, protecting against cell damage. Similar to many of the other ingredients included in Focused by Fredi, Bacopa can also reduce stress and anxiety, lower blood pressure levels, and reduce inflammation.

“When you can power through your workday feeling focused, what happens is you’re actually able to wrap up the day feeling accomplished and leave your work at work— so you can go enjoy your life,” said Fredi’s creators.

With a formula consisting of 6 all-natural herbs, amino acids, and other brain-healthy ingredients, Focused by Fredi has been praised by consumers who truly feel the difference in their daily lives after taking the supplement. Fatigue, brain fog, and distractibility are just a handful of the unnecessary side effects everyday life imposes, according to Chelsea Glaser. But that doesn’t have to be the case with a supplement that improves focus, productivity, and energy all day long.

“That’s why we want to help ambitious women create burnout-resistant brains and lifestyles— we don’t want anything to hold them back from their goals and their potential,” said Chelsea Glaser.
