The keys of the piano are black and white but with the right pianist, an array of colors can be produced from its sound. One such remarkable musical artist is none other than the budding American Pianist – Harrison Sheckler. The music industry is constantly changing especially with the shift from live to virtual performances due to the Covid-19 pandemic. These artists are rising up with something distinctive, promising and charismatic attracting enthusiastic audiences. Being among these artists, Harrison is making a big sound.
About Harrison Sheckler
Born in Rochester, Minnesota, Harrison Sheckler is a 25 year old pianist who holds a strong passion for music. With his current base in Charles City, Iowa Harrison is staying busy pursuing a career in the music industry. He is a remarkable American pianist, a soloist and piano accompanist. This budding musician is making his mark through viral virtual choir projects such as his, “You’ll Never Walk Alone” collaboration featuring over three hundred people from fifteen different countries.
Achievements and Education
Sheckler earned his Bachelor of Music degree in 2019 from the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and will earn his Master of Music degree from Brooklyn College this May. Continuing his studies, Sheckler will be attending the University of Arizona in Tucson starting this fall in pursuit of a Doctorate in Music Arts Degree (DMA) in piano performance.
When so many performance opportunities were canceled, Sheckler stayed creative during the pandemic. He made strong connections with various talented artists and collaborated on many amazing music projects. He also ventured his journey into YouTube by creating his show titled, “The Sheckler Spotlight” which consists of a series of featured interviews sharing inspirational stories from prominent actors, musicians and various artists.
Actions speak louder than words and Sheckler’s determination and artist initiatives are well observed. He created virtual choir projects for Brooklyn College, Capital University, The New West Symphony, The Dessoff Choirs, Rose Short (contestant on The Voice), a video featuring over twenty Major League Baseball stars, and much more just this past year.
Apart from music, Harrison is a huge baseball fan with his favorite team being the Chicago Cubs. He also likes to fish, downhill ski, and read books.
Success and Motivation
Every success story is unique. Sheckler says that “If you want to be successful in music, you need to be 110% devoted day in and day out. Living in a social media oriented world, everyone has access to the best musicians and their performances on their cellphone. You have to compete with that. How? Well, you need to be original, find your niche, and create valuable connections with your fans and well respected people in your field who can open doors for you. The days of waiting for someone to magically discover you, sign you and make you an international star have passed. You have everything you need at your disposable to succeed. It’s on YOU to perfect your craft and share it with the world. My views on music can be summed up by what Tom Hanks’s character Jimmy Dugan says in my favorite movie “A League of their Own” – ‘It’s supposed to be hard if it wasn’t hard everyone would do it. The hard is what makes it great.’ ”
What keeps Harrison motivated?. It’s his love of performing and creating projects enjoyed and shared with others. Sheckler is striding forth with his unceasing potential and sharp temperament on his goal to pursue a career in the music industry. He strives to bring music to the masses and to create valuable connections with people who love the fine arts. Through his virtual choir projects and other collaborations, he tries to appeal to a wide demographic of people in order to reach as many ears as possible. His zeal towards music is truly commendable and his passion for music will help him excel making the sky the limit.
