Abiel Cano’s Journey of Finding Success as a Business Owner

Abiel Cano is the successful owner of Control Garage Doors, specializing in garage door repairs and replacements. However, his career journey has been anything but linear. Born and raised in Oaxaca, Mexico, Abiel recalls being intrigued whenever English speaking Americans would visit his small town, and deciding from a young age that he would move to the United States one day. He says, “At age 14, I had dropped out of school.

I thought it was a waste of time and resources for my parents and I didn’t want to be a burden to them.”

Abiel continues, “I moved to America by the time I was 16 years old. I found my first job picking up crops in South Jersey; it was the only job I could find at that time. Every afternoon, I would see a yellow bus come to the farmlands to pick up the workers’ kids. I knew then that I wanted to go back to school.”

After completing high school, Abiel determined that college was not for him. Nevertheless, his newfound education proved to be the push he needed to jump-start his success. “In 2007, I took a greyhound bus from Philadelphia to Houston, TX without knowing what I would do or how I would find a job,” he explains. “I only had one contact, but I was excited about the adventure and sure that I would find a way to start a new life by myself.”

Upon his arrival, his contact agreed to show him the ropes of garage door installation, and the rest, Abiel says, was history. After some trial and error over the years, today Abiel has never been more determined in his career. He notes, “It’s been a journey and I had to pay for some expensive lessons. Now I have a structure and people put in space. Today, I know that persistence pays off and that before you make it, you have to fail. The journey continues.”

Abiel Cano is the fruitful proprietor of Control Garage Doors, gaining practical experience in carport entryway fixes and substitutions. Be that as it may, his profession venture has been definitely not straight.

Abiel’s advice to aspiring entrepreneurs? “Overcome fear. Set a goal and be persistent. Time, effort, and creativity create a business. Don’t give up!”
