An Interview With Upcoming Rapper BRI-YAN

Bri-yan

What’s up Bri-Yan! How are you?

“Doing well! Excited for this interview, thank you for asking.

1) How did you come by your stage name?

This is a funny story, so my name is Briyan , I’ve actually changed my stage name twice. Growing up my grandma use to call me Bri, which is the first half of my name, that was her nickname for me. So I was like I’m gonna honor her by using that as my artist name, it didn’t go as planned. People who didn’t know me personally or was meeting me for the first time was saying “Bree” instead of “Bri” lol it was kinda annoying. We also had some issues with that artist name so we had to rebrand, we decided to use my real name, all we did was put a hyphen in the middle since I have both I and Y in my name, I think it’s pretty cool, So that’s how the name Bri-yan was form.

2) When did you discover your love for music and what made you realize?

That’s such a tough question (lol) As a young’n I’ve always love listening to music,as a consumer that is, but I feel like I fell in love with music, the day I picked up that pen and wrote my first song. The joy that it brought me and just being around a group of guys that champion you when your creating something is just unexplainable, being in front of that microphone, zoning everything out and just pouring your heart out is a feeling I don’t think I can explain, it’s just amazing!!!!!

3) To whom or what do you accredit your style of music creation to?

God first always, He gave me this gift and the love for this art, I’m also influenced by Lecrae, KB, J Cole, my hometown, growing up in the Caribbean definitely played a huge part in my sound and style of music.

4) On your current single, how did you come up with the concept?

Oh this is such a great question!!! So “The Box” is owned by Corey Calliet. It’s his personal gym, where he trains his clients. Man Corey is just a inspiration to me and I look up to him as a mentor and a big brother, he is also a inspiration to a lot of other folks around the world!!! His story is amazing, and it’s full of hope. I met Corey a few years ago in Venice, I’ve been following his journey for a min now. So My goal was to always colab with him, but I didn’t know what that would look like you know. I mean he is the fitness guru and I’m in music. I had a thought one day, I should make a theme song for Corey. I just wanted to add his legacy, and the great things that he is already doing. I already was in contact with him, building on this friendship.  like I said he is like a big brother to me, so I messaged him and was like “ hey big bro, I have a theme song for you!!!” He messages me back and said send it!” To be honest I had zero track!! Haha, so I was like dope, I already knew a little bit of his story but I needed more so I went and did my research sat down And wrote the song that same day, recorded it with my engineer paulMagicfingers Alvarez. There is this thing now where my engineer can tap into my computer from across the world and track my vocals real time, I know wild!!!  So, we did all that, I sent like a demo to Corey, he loved it but I felt like something was missing. I hit up paul and told him let’s sit on this one And figure out what it needs, cause something is missing, it needs more of something we just don’t know what yet. I told Corey I’m doing some more work to it and give me a few weeks for the final draft. Paul and I bounce some ideas of each other and that’s when we figured out what was missing, we added what needed to be added, sent it to Corey and he just co-signed it. It was such an amazing feeling, like I got to do a song about/ with one of the greatest celebrity Trainer in the world!!!! I mean I got to add to his legacy, I’m honored and more than grateful!!!

5)What are some of your greatest challenges and your greatest attributes when it comes to making music?

Some challenges would be  I get distracted so easily lol. Sometimes I’m too hard on myself, I need to be more graceful to myself. I’m an over thinker for sure!!!! Sometimes it’s hard to ask for help, especially when it comes to writing. I quickly realize I can’t do this by myself! So those are some of the things that’s challenging for me.  For attributes, I’d say being bilingual, I can do a song in Spanish, creole and English if I wanted to, I love that cause I can tap into any of this genre and it gives me opportunities to work with creators in this genres. Also setting the vibe in the room, when me and my friends are creating, like once I get hype beat believe everyone is about to turn up haha. I also write pretty quick, when I’m not distracted.

6) Are you the best at what you do?

Oh, definitely, I have full confidence in me and what I do, and I always give 110 percent. There is only one me, and I believe in my craft and gifts!!

7)What are your plans in the near future as far as music goes after the release of this new single?

I am finishing my first studio album, I have a ton of colab in the works, so u know keep providing quality music to my fans and just keep building this fan base, so God willing I’m gonna be busy creating more content

8)Is there anyone you’d like to thank or shout-out who may have helped you with completing the new single?

Shout out to God for opening that door to make it happen, shout out to Corey Calliet, thank you for believing in me and for giving me the opportunity to make this happen, thank you for rocking with me big bro I’m forever grateful!!! Shout out to paulMagicfingers Alvarez, thank you for being so patient, and for going hard to create something that’s truly a vibe!!!!! And lastly shout out to Mercedes Lambey, she did artwork, thank you for working late nights and for full filling all my Las minutes request and changes to the album cover you’re the best!!!!

9)What music advice would you give to your younger self?

Be patient, be kind to myself, never stop believe, it’s gonna be hard but I have what it takes!!! Cause so many times I felt like giving up, I’ve had some disappointing moments but also some great ones. Trust God and the process!!!

10)What suggestions/advice do you have for other artists like yourself?

Whatever u do never stop believing in your self and your dreams!!!!  Surround yourself with people who wanna see you win, but who will also challenge you and bring the best out of you to create quality content!! Also live  and enjoy life!!!! Make very moment count and celebrate every win no matter how small it is!!!!!! Lastly you have what it takes!!!!! So go full force at your dreams!
