Australian Author, Speaker, Podcaster, and Wellbeing Coach Aims To Give Us ‘Real’ Skills To Change the Face of Mental Health

World Mental Health Day, Week and Month, have passed us for another year, but are we making the progress we need to when it comes to changing the devastating mental health statistics?
We’ve spent our life cultivating survival strategies, but are they the ones we really need to thrive when things go wrong? We’ve strived for straight A’s, admission to prestigious universities, and supreme athletic performance, but where does that leave us when unpredictability strikes and the things we know begin to crumble? In the coming decades we will continue to face unprecedented challenges and global uncertainty, now is the time to assess if what we are offering all human beings is actually helping them.
Evan Sutter, a leading happiness and wellbeing expert, promises to equip all of us with the vital skills we need to thrive amid the chaos and confusion of the 20’s with his podcast Sutterfaction, his unique book meets journal Awake, his thought provoking keynote talks, coaching and online programs, and a range of powerful social impact projects (Sutter created The Kids of Bogota Engaged Education Initiative and pioneered Soft-Sand Walking Meditations on Australia’s famous Bondi Beach).
Having grown up in a disadvantaged community in Australia, as a Rugby League player and boxer, and after 10 years stuck in the pleasure trap of chasing his happiness in alcohol, drugs, and sex, Sutter is well versed in the dangerous patterns of behaviour that face so many people – young and old. If it wasn’t for his lucky escape to the secluded forests of Thich Nhat Hanh’s Buddhist Monastery in France, he just might be one of these mental health statistics.
“COVID-19 has made people all over the world realize that maybe they will need some better tools to cope with change, loss, stress, boredom, and loneliness, other than Netflix, alcohol, Tinder, and a nice car. We all need more support than just another mental health awareness and ‘can we talk’ campaign,” says author, and reformed hedonist, Sutter.
Sutter created his book Awake to be a toolkit packed with helpful resources that is both accessible and engaging for people of all ages to learn skills that will benefit their lives. He has taken the unique approach in creating a book and journal, to ensure we provoke thought and then have practical ways to shift habits. By skillfully drawing upon a range of modalities including positive psychology, mindfulness, and self-compassion, he guides readers to cultivate resilience, kindness, and emotional intelligence.
“Awake is the evidence-based, easy to navigate, well-being tool we all need right now,” says Jennifer Moss, Author of the Burnout Epidemic.
Awake, Schiffer Publishing, is available at all good bookstores throughout North America, UK, Europe, Australia, and Asia.
