Dream within a dream, the story behind an NFT collection

“In each of us is another whom we do not know. He speaks to us in dreams and tells us how differently he sees us from the way we see ourselves.” Carl Jung
How are dreams shaped? What’s the function of dreams? Is it a voice of our repressed process, a kind of archetypes, a window to human unconsciousness, or just a by-product of a process in which brain tries to organize the reminiscences of the daily experience? These are some of the interesting questions that psychologists, neuroscientists, and researchers have conducted many research to find the answers for. But dream is not appealing just to scientific scholars. Despite many scientific unknowns, dreams have a popular presence in media art including movies, paintings, etc. The Persistence of Time by Salvador Dali or The Inception by Christopher Nolan are some of the most famous examples of this kind.
In NFT world, a collection named Megaland Aliens, has taken a fictional approach on dream theories. As they have written on their website, the story began on January 23, 1989, when a strange electromagnetic wave hit earth. Consequently, dreams of a group of people crossed each other and a common world in their dreams was discovered, Magaland. This new world shaped the base for the collection.
The characters design in this collection are perfectly aligned with a dream world in which sometimes the bodies and faces morph together to create new imaginary forms; known features used in a unique composition to shape creatures who are unknown to us but we can relate to them. If the megaland is a dream world, any of these characters could be interpreted and seen as another version of the dreamer whom he/she might not know. And as Jung says about dreams, these unknown version of us speak to us in dreams and tell how differently they see us form the way we see ourselves. And that’s where the “Alien” part in the name of the collection is derived from; an unknown, strange, and mysterious version of ourselves that reveals in our dreams.
The story sounds very authentic not only in NFTs world but also in other famous art forms that we have seen. We will observe how the story and the project will develop in the future. In their website, it has been mentioned a feature called Dream-Lab that would allow the members to explore more in dream world! Are they going to go wilder and get more surreal in the design? Is this going to be a dream within a dream world? We don’t know the answers yet, but if we take Megaland Aliens as the 1st season of a
great series, we can hope that the subsequent seasons be using more of dream approaches since the team will pass the restrictions of the first production.
