If you took a little peek into our current playlist, you’d definitely find an assortment of interesting names on there (or so we like to think, at least!). And perhaps one of the most interesting names on that list has got to be Lyzzie. A young singer-songwriter coming out of Toronto, Canada, Lyzzie is one of those strong female acts that you just love to listen to on repeat, obsessively, until you feel like she’s rented a room inside your soul. Because do not kid yourself, that’s exactly what Lyzzie will do.
Her latest hit single, “Graveyard” is tinged with such gusto, and such a deeply personal take on life, the universe, and everything, that from the very first listen, you feel like you’ve known this woman for ages. And like you never want to stop listening to her.
What stands out about this unique and highly addictive artist is the ingenuity and pure honesty that you get from every single one of her lyrics. There’s nothing pretentious about Lyzzie, just raw emotion, sometimes good, sometimes kinda dark, but that only adds to this musician’s charm. “Graveyard”, for instance, is not your typical feel-good Friday tune. But then again, it’s not meant to be.
“Graveyard” delves deep into what it means to be yourself, even when that self is difficult, even when life itself gets a little unfriendly. It’s a tune about surviving, about letting yourself fall, only to come back up stronger, and as such, it’s easily one of the best songs we’ve heard all year. “Graveyard”, like most of Lyzzie’s music is about being unabashedly you, and understanding that’s not something you have to do in spite of difficulty, but because of it. That being you is powerful and unique and amazing – that’s the sort of vibe Lyzzie’s music leaves you with.
Through all of these experiences, Lyzzie settled into her own artistic self and is now ready to release her debut 4 song EP. This EP is a clear indication of all of her hard work and can be seen as a glimpse into the type of music that Lyzzie will continue to put out into the world.
Which is what she’s doing in our playlist – we think we could use more of that kind of energy right about now, and maybe you could, too. At present, Lyzzie is working on her first 4-track EP, but while you wait for that, we strongly recommend that you sit back, and lose yourself to the inviting beats of “Graveyard”.
