Here we sit down with April, to know a bit more about her journey as a life coach.
What inspired April to become an entrepreneur?
April: I ran a health and fitness company in Dubai for 11 years and when I moved back to the UK I wanted to still have my own business that helped and supported others. I would have to say I inspire myself to become an entrepreneur as I wanted a business that would suit and work around my family.
How did April get started?
April: When I had my health and fitness business I used to find myself often being a shoulder for someone to cry on or for people to rant about their problems, this gave me the idea of helping women in a more formal way. I worked hard to complete my courses and training and have been on many training sessions learning new techniques and ways to help support others. My reason for my business is my husband and 3 boys. My husband works long hours and we have three football-obsessed little boys who want to play 24/7 therefore my job has to be flexible, work with my other commitments but also be very rewarding. I have the best job in the world!
What was your biggest startup challenge? What steps did you take to overcome it? What did you learn?
April: My biggest challenge is time. I had so many ideas and wanted to get it all going, however, I have a husband, 3 little boys, and a dog that all take up my time. I think this is an area in which a lot of women struggle with finding extra time for themselves and their businesses. I made a commitment to get to bed early and wake at 5 am in order to have my power hours. It’s amazing what you can get done early in the morning before everyone wakes up!! I learned that if you want something bad enough you will sacrifice other things such as late nights and lay-ins and get up early, be productive and get the job done!
What is the Most Memorable Thing did April Done Since you Started your Business?
April: Coaching a lady who wasn’t in a loving relationship. Don’t get me wrong, my job can really be hard at times. Some women come to you utterly broken. This particular lady was not in a good way and couldn’t carry on with living a lie. The change in her over the weeks was truly amazing. She inspired me! She learned that she deserved better and that she could find happiness elsewhere. She left my sessions feeling confident and with a smile on her face. I cannot wait to see where she is in a year from now as I know she has it in her!
What is one book you recommend, and why?
April: At present, I am reading Tyson Fury’s book. I admire that man. He came from nothing, he battled with lots of demons and was at the bottom of a slippery slope but his why made him change. He applied himself and got the help he needed. He trained every day, focused on his health, and remembered what was important in life, his family. I would recommend the book. He’s a Very inspiring man!
What are your favourite online apps, tools, or resources and what do you love about them?
April: Canva because it is great for Instagram apps and stories.
In terms of legacy, what is the mark you’d like to leave on the world?
April: I would like to have helped as many children and women as possible to become the very best that they can be.
In one sentence, what’s the best advice you’d give to someone just starting out on their entrepreneurial journey?
April: Always remember your WHY. When times get tough you just need to remember and it will get you back on track!
