John De Oca (@therelationshipprescriber) is the CEO and founder of The Relationship Prescriber, a relationship coaching business geared towards helping clients achieve absolute fulfillment in their personal lives and relationships. His coaching practice focuses on four relationship types: the relationship you have with yourself, romantic relationships, friendships, and work relationships.
John is a double board-certified nurse practitioner with a certification in nurse coaching, with nearly 15 years of nursing experience and has been coaching for the last four years.
John recognized the need for strong inner work after the loss of his parents in his teens, enduring the hardships that arose from this, as well as from years of practicing in the plastic surgery area aiding patients to work on their image, identifying an overemphasized focus on external attributes.
It was through his clinical experience and personal journey that led him to embark on helping clients achieve fulfillment in their personal lives and impact the way people show up in relationships as a result. Through his doctoral studies, John has researched work relationships and interventions of how to improve peer to peer work relationships and improve workplace cultures with large institutions and organizations.
Through a combination of holistic coaching principals, John likes to take a deep dive into his client’s personal history and help them ascertain patterns that may be arising for them, discover limiting self-beliefs, and identify communication barriers that can be hindering them in their personal life satisfaction. Nothing is more satisfying than that spur of the moment breakthrough or “ah ha!” moment.
John’s mission is to empower his clients to self-awareness by allowing them to recognize what may be holding them back and assisting them in enhancing their growth and development. He would love nothing more than to improve the way people handle relationships on both a micro and macro level.
Working with John will allow the client to focus on their relationships and their self-development. An initial session will go through pattern recognition, identifying relational needs, setbacks and goals, and then that’s when the real work begins. Every coach offers unique traits and John’s style accentuates a gentle yet direct approach to assist his clients in their ultimate success and achievements, all while having fun in the process.
John’s background as a nurse allows him to serve his clients well. He has worked in several areas of healthcare including medicine & surgery, emergency medicine, critical care, home care, management, oncology, and plastic surgery. John also works with corporate organizations to assist in improvements to workplace culture focusing on workshops surrounding emotional intelligence and communication skills.
Core principals John feels that are vital to relationships are identifying values and relationship needs while recognizing differences, assertive and kind communication, authenticity to self, intuition, personal awareness and awareness of others. These skills help his clients flourish.
A profound quote John has discovered states “in relationships there are no victims, just willing participants.” and this has been such an eye opening and empowering statement for John really touching his soul and hitting him at his core.
