GPS Trackers for Fleet Tracking

fleet gps tracker

It is unimaginable to think today about people who still have not experienced a GPS tracker one way or the other. We mostly have used GPS trackers in vehicles but are unaware that the smartphones we use also have GPS devices embedded in it. There are numerous ways to use GPS trackers, but today we’ll stick to the Fleet tracking applications only.

But first let’s understand the difference.

What is GPS tracking for fleets?

GPS tracking and Fleet tracking are two different phenomena. GPS trackers track position and time whereas Fleet tracking is a management system that uses GPS tracking principles to monitor the journey, movement activities of fleets, vehicles, and assets—thus known as GPS Fleet Tracking.

And there’s another difference. Fleet tracking is slightly different from Vehicle tracking. We’ll discuss that later, for now let’s further explore the applications of GPS tracking for fleets.

What is Fleet Tracking?

Fleet tracking is a type of GPS tracking used extensively for commercial fleet tracking. The ‘fleet’ means more than one vehicle—therefore, applications of fleet tracking are:

  • Taxi Dispatch/Services – Taxi providers use Fleet tracking systems and devices that enable them to keep an eye on every ride and route.
  • Logistics – All these courier and asset transportation vehicles use Fleet tracking devices to update their commute and dispatch stops. Ensures customers with ETA etc.
  • Public Transportation – Especially in the US, the transport agencies monitor public transport to ensure that every vehicle is on its right track and on time.
  • Emergency Vehicles – Emergency responders use GPS-fitted vehicles to keep the other surrounding related fleets up to date. This application is often used in geofencing as well.
  • Trucking Industry – It is one of the most common applications of GPS Fleet tracking in the world. Truckers have installed fleet trackers to improve timely deliverance and productivity.

Interesting Fact about Fleet Tracking

Did you know that in 1996, then-President Bill Clinton issued a policy directive for dual use of GPS satellites in the US? This enabled the fleet companies to keep tabs on their fleets’ real-time locations.

What are the benefits of Fleet Tracking GPS?

From smart alerts to improved tracking apps, GPS has so far in the race of technology—and so do its benefits. Here are top 5 benefits of GPS Fleet Tracking:

  • Efficient Route Monitoring – Helps the commercial fleet companies to plan best routes for their fleets and monitor the journey with real-time tracking. This also helps the users to identify traffic congestion roads.
  • Anti-Cargo Theft – Every year around 500 fleets get robbed or stolen with millions of worth assets in it. Fleet tracking has put an end to it. Geofencing, a GPS feature, creates virtual parameters for the fleets that prevent it from cargo thefts.
  • Real-time Automation – Forget about calling the drivers to inquire about routes, with Fleet GPS tracking, you will not only know the real-time movement of the fleets but will also see the complete details of the drivers.
  • Improved Customer Experience – Fleet tracking has fastened the way assets are delivered. Users can also now track their shipments through GPS tracking via a single shareable link.
  • Location-based Pricing – With fleet tracking, the users can now pay for items delivered according to the distance traveled. Some companies have already figured out the distance and fixed & synchronized their pricing with Fleet tracking. Another example of it is the private taxis that charge us on traveled

Now, the question that remains to be answered is.

What is the pricing for GPS Fleet Tracking?

Depending on the number of fleets you have, the fleet tracking price starts from $15 to $300+ subject to your usage—that’s the commercial pricing if you’re running a logistics business. However, the average fleet tracking pricing is between $25 to $50 a month.

Fleet Tracking and the Future

Today, logistics and commercial fleet companies use fleet management software that helps them track, monitor, and plan their fleets’ movement around locations. Not only this, but GPS also helps in monitoring the fleet’s health and fuel usage that has reduced the capital costs for fleet managers. The need for safe, secure, and reliable fleets tracking is increasing rapidly.

By the end of 2021, the fleet industry reported $27.9 billion worth of fleet projection. This shows the swiftly increasing demand of technological advancements in the fleet industry.
