Harbour Island: A Hot Vacation Spot and and home to The Ultra Wealthy

Harbour Island: A Hot Vacation Spot and home to The Ultra-Wealthy

The famous Harbour Island lies northwest of Eleuthera Island in the Bahamas. Its New-England style architecture, coral reefs and marine life stand out to anyone who has visited the island.

What’s another thing that this island has become known for? Billionaires and the Ultra Wealthy.

What makes Harbour Island such a hot spot?

Billionaires! And of course, the 3-mile long, sandy beach is as pink as the inside of a conch shell. This island makes every travel destination magazine’s “best beach” list each year.

Its proximity makes it perfect for fishing the deep waters between North Eleuthera, Abaco and Nassau, and the shallower waters of the Exuma Sound. It’s no surprise that billionaires always participate in yachting and sport-fishing during their time on the island.

No wonder why everyday people view it as the ideal vacation destination. It has become the playground of the rich and famous, which makes it appealing to the masses.

From music icons to fashion CEOs, many billionaires and celebrities have experienced the beauty of the island.

Nearly 17 billionaires (and celebrities) either own a property on this island or simply visit it every year. Here’s a run-down:

  1. Bill Gates
  2. Revlon chairman Ron Perelman
  3. Duty-free tycoon Robert Miller
  4. Crew CEO Mickey Drexler
  5. Media mogul Barry Diller
  6. Diane von Furstenberg
  7. Former Miami Dolphins owner Wayne Huizenga
  8. English model (and 2nd cousin of Prince Charles) India Hicks
  9. Supermodel Tyra Banks
  • Elle Macpherson
  • Mick Jagger
  • Zac Posen
  • Tom Hanks
  • Jennifer Huston
  • Tom Cruise
  • Kerry Washington
  • Dwayne Wade

There’s more where that came from.

For such a small island — only 3.5 miles long by 1.5 miles wide — there are a half-dozen sophisticated inns. The best and most famous inn is the Pink Sands Resort, which is directly on the Pink Sands Beach and formerly owned by Island Records founder Chris Blackwell. Designed by Biba founder Barbara Hulanicki, the resort is a collection of 25 cottages, positioned with optimum intimacy on 20 green acres.
