Hilary Repass on finding success in Hickory NC Real Estate

Hilary Repass

Hilary Repass is a successful real estate agent in Hickory, NC and has been in business for 10+ years.  She specializes in helping people build wealth through real estate investing.

How did you get started?

While in college I worked for a commercial real estate and development company, I quickly changed my major from History to Business and went to real estate school!

What is the best part of your job?

The best part of my job is getting to meet so many different people from all walks of life and helping them build wealth through real estate. Real estate is such a people business and  I love the wealth building aspect of real estate – seeing a piece of dirt develop into a beautiful home or major investment is exciting to me. Being able to advise them on how to put their money to best use in terms of real estate is a really exciting part of my job and something I’m passionate about.

How long did it take for you to become profitable?

I worked in an administrative roll for 10 + years before I had the guts to go on straight commission- in the first year of selling I tripled my administrative salary. I was so nervous about taking that risk and there are always plenty of people that will tell you all the reasons you shouldn’t, now I just wish that I hadn’t listened for so long and had gone out on my own sooner. You can’t expect others to believe in you more than you believe in yourself. Even as a highly ranked agent, I still repeat daily affirmations to myself.

What is the toughest decision you’ve had to make in the last few months?

How to manage a thriving business and kids that are growing up too fast! My family is so important to me and you only have a few years with your kids, as kids. Being passionate about both my family and my business means there are hard calls sometimes on how to manage my time best.

What has been your most satisfying moment in business?

Selling the extremely difficult listings- or run down investment properties- painting a vision for what it could be.

Where do you see your business in the next few years?

I’m really excited to be able to mentor other agents to become profitable and really grow.

What’s one trend that really excites you?

Barndominiums! Have you heard about them? They are these wonderful homes built using existing metal barn structures. They are less expensive to build and you can create any kind of layout you like, each one is usually custom built.

What is the one thing you do over and over and recommend everyone else do?

Follow up, always follow up.

What is one strategy that has helped you grow your business?

What I do today is what I get paid in 90 days, never stop working. It’s what I tell new agents, you’ve got to just keep grinding, keep moving, and always follow up.

What are some of your favorite hotspots to visit in Hickory, NC?

Well, Hatch Sandwich bar is pretty much the go to spot for lunch. Catawba Science Center is a really great place to take young kids and we have so many wonderful museums in the area. If you like the outdoors, Bakers Mountain Park is gorgeous and since it’s about 200 acres and 6 miles of trails, there is plenty to enjoy. I really love this community, I’m just as much a part of it as my clients are. This place means a lot to me and it’s where my kids go to school.
